Recently, the US President's special envoy for climate issues, Kerry once again proposed to China to restore Sino-US climate negotiations and cooperation, but did not fulfill the prerequisites given by China. What's interesting is that as soon as Kerry made the request, US Secretary of Defense Austin also came to join in the fun.
According to Observer.com , Austin recently said in an interview that the United States is seeking to restart military communication channels with China and is making efforts to do so, hoping that China can reach cooperation with the United States on this.
In response to this, Colonel Tan Kefei, spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of China, responded that China also attaches great importance to military relations with the United States and is willing to communicate, but the development of military relations between the two countries has principles and bottom lines. Now, due to the responsibility of the United States, the relationship between the two militaries is facing difficulties. Therefore, if we really want to strengthen communication, the United States will first eliminate the negative factors that affect the relationship between the two militaries.
It is obvious that China's response is to clearly propose the prerequisites for the United States to restart the Sino-US military dialogue, and this condition is the same as the prerequisites previously stated by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Krie, that is, to eliminate the impact of Pelosi's 's storm.
This is because the suspension of Sino-US climate cooperation and military communication are both countermeasures issued by China to address Pelosi's visit. For this reason, the negative impact on these two cooperations is undoubtedly Pelosi's provocative behavior of going to Taiwan.
In fact, considering this and the prerequisites that the Chinese Foreign Ministry has put forward, if the US is indeed sincere, it should be possible to infer that there will be such a prerequisite if it wants to resume military communication with China.
However, it is obvious that the US side does not realize this, and judging by the successive unreasonable demands from the US officials, it is enough to show that it has no sincerity at all. Even if the US side speculates that there will be the same prerequisite, it cannot directly ask China to cancel two countermeasures. After all, it is its provocation first, and it is natural for China to take countermeasures.
In other words, if the United States does intend to resume various cooperation with China, it needs to first recognize its mistakes and correct them. Or it can be said that when China puts forward the prerequisites for climate cooperation, the United States should start to take action to eliminate the negative impact of Pelosi's provocative actions.
So in this way, Austin will seek to restart military communication from China, which is likely to be much easier than the current situation, because if the prerequisites have been fulfilled, it will not be helpful to resume military dialogue.
Because of this, it can be seen from the United States' attitude towards climate cooperation that it does not think it is wrong at all, nor does it think it is causing this series of problems, let alone take the initiative to eliminate the negative impact of its malicious provocation. It is obvious that the United States is still trying to wait for China to compromise.
However, the United States needs to know that it is its own malicious provocation first. What China has taken is reasonable and necessary countermeasures. Even if the United States uses coercion, it is not glorious, let alone China will not bow to it.
In addition, like climate cooperation, it is not China who is actively seeking to resume cooperation now, but the United States.
So no matter what the point is, China undoubtedly takes the initiative in the negotiations to resume cooperation, but the right to choose is still in the hands of the United States, because the problems with Sino-US cooperation are all caused by itself.
Because of this, the United States needs to correct its attitude, respect China's sovereignty, and stop suppressing and internal interference in China. Only in this way can China-US relations be alleviated and cooperation between the two sides be restored, rather than continue to regard China as a "competitor" or even an enemy as before.
After all, when the US President Biden talked with the new British Prime Minister Sunak , he threatened to "respond to China" with the latter. Not only that, White House official Kirby even said that China has posed a "threat and challenge" in Asia-Pacific region, and that the United States will "resist China within the Indo-Pacific Strategy framework."
It is obvious that the Biden administration still retains its wrong understanding of China and tries to create geopolitical conflicts and camp confrontation, which is extremely undesirable. These words and deeds not only do not help Sino-US relations, but also make it more difficult for the US to seek to restart military communication, because this does not reflect the sincerity of the US at all.
Although China and the United States resume cooperation, especially in the military, is of great significance to world security, peace and stability, this does not mean that the United States can let China relax without respect.
Therefore, as a major country with a significant impact on world security, the United States still needs to set an example and be consistent in its words and deeds. Only in this way can it benefit all parties.
