On June 28, local time, after negotiations between the heads of governments of Turkey, Sweden and Finland and NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, Turkey withdrew its veto of Sweden and Finland's entry into NATO. The resolution approved the two countries mentioned above to join NATO.

According to a statement issued by Finnish President Niinisto, the three governments have signed a trilateral agreement confirming that Turkey will support the invitation of Sweden and Finland to become NATO members. The agreement emphasizes that Sweden, Finland and Turkey are committed to supporting each other in dealing with threats to each country's security, including cooperating in the fight against terrorism.

Niinistö also said, "The specific steps for our joining NATO will be agreed by NATO allies in the next two days."

Exchange conditions

According to Turkey's Anadolu News Agency, the trilateral agreement includes that Finland and Sweden will clearly condemn all attacks carried out by terrorist organizations against Turkey and promise to prevent the activities of the Kurdistan Workers Party and other related organizations and individuals. Turkey, Finland and Sweden have decided to strengthen cooperation in combating the activities of terrorist organizations. Finland and Sweden will quickly consider and handle requests for deportation or extradition of terrorist suspects based on information, evidence and intelligence provided by Turkey.

Turkey confirmed its support for NATO's open policy and said it would support inviting Finland and Sweden to join NATO at the Madrid summit. As future NATO allies, Finland and Sweden will not support the "Gulen Movement" and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party and its affiliated armed organization "People's Protection Units". Sweden confirmed that a new, more effective terrorism crime law will take effect on July 1, and the government will strengthen anti-terrorism legislation. Türkiye, Finland and Sweden confirmed the lifting of the arms embargo between the three parties.

In addition, the trilateral agreement also emphasizes the establishment of an intelligence-sharing cooperation mechanism to combat terrorism and organized crime, prohibits fundraising and recruitment activities of the PKK and its affiliates, prohibits terrorist propaganda against Turkey, and supports Finland and Sweden extensively. Participate in the EU security mechanism and establish a permanent joint mechanism involving judicial, intelligence and security agencies to supervise the implementation of the above measures.

Russian parliamentarian: Finland and Sweden have no strategy to join NATO Significance
