The American Civil War liberated black slaves, but getting rid of slave status does not mean that the United States has solved the problem of racial discrimination. Although southern blacks obtained personal freedom and became citizens in name, some state laws deprived them of their right to vote in various forms. Against this, black Americans continue to fight. When Roosevelt became president of the United States during World War II, the discrimination against black Americans improved to some extent. The new generation of black American youths discovered that although American society has gradually abolished provisions that discriminate against blacks, they face new forms of poverty and racism that are different from their parents’ generation. To fight for equal rights for blacks, Martin Luther King led the black civil rights movement. Under the influence of this movement, in Oakland, California, in 1966, two black youths established a black organization called the "Black Panther Party", advocating the use of violence to suppress violence and the use of force to stop white police from bullying blacks. The two young people were named Xiuy Newton and Bob Sear. They carefully studied California's gun laws and found that it clearly stipulates that it is not illegal to carry a gun as long as the gun is not pointed at someone. Thus, a new trend of black movement to "supervise white police" began.
The members of the Black Panther Party are uniformed and loaded with live ammunition every time they appear on the scene. When they encounter white policemen bullying black people, they rushed forward to interfere. The police saw this posture. Don't dare to be too much to black people. Although it looks like a violent organization, the members of the Black Panther Party do not really use their guns. If white policemen try to make trouble, they will immediately recite California's "Open Gun Law" in public and tell them that they did not make a mistake. At the same time, they will warn the white police that if the other party dares to violate the constitutional rights of blacks, they will take him to court. As a result, the Black Panther Party became famous, and many young students were willing to join the organization, creating tremendous pressure on the white police.
The Black Panthers aroused the high vigilance of the California government, and soon issued a decree prohibiting citizens from publicly carrying loaded guns. To express their dissatisfaction and protest, Newton and Cyr led more than 30 people into the California State Assembly with guns, and they were all detained. After the incident was exposed by the media, the Black Panther Party became more famous. Young people from many places came here, and even some white youths also asked to join the Black Panther Party. A small local organization suddenly became a national organization, with branches in almost all parts of the United States, with more than 2,000 members at its peak. With the development of the Black Panther Party, it has aroused the vigilance of the FBI and identified it as "the greatest threat to the internal security of the country" and began to take measures to combat it.
On October 28, 1967, in a violent conflict, Newton was arrested on charges of shooting a white policeman. Under the leadership of Sill, the Black Panthers launched a massive rescue operation. Although the rescue failed, this move greatly expanded the influence of the Black Panthers. On April 4, 1968, the leader of the African American movement, Martin Luther King, was shot and riots broke out in many places in the United States. The development of the Black Panther Party also reached a historical crossroads. Sear called on members to use violence to control violence, but did not receive a positive response. In the end, Sill and a 17-year-old member Bobby attacked the police station. As a result, Bobby was killed by the police. After Sill was arrested, he was released on bail and then fled to Algeria to establish an international branch to continue the struggle.
Thanks to the unremitting efforts of Sill and the members of the domestic Black Panther Party, Newton was released after three years of imprisonment. But after Newton was released from prison, he announced in a high-profile manner that he would give up armed struggle.The overseas Sear was puzzled, and the contradiction between the two became increasingly fierce. As the leader of the Black Panther Party, Newton simply expelled Searle. The infighting and splitting of the Black Panther Party made many members discouraged and many people left the club. Newton's private life was unscrupulous, and he quickly became addicted to drugs, and embezzled the organization's donations to take drugs, and also ganged up with street gangs to participate in drug transactions and underground prostitution. In 1982, the Black Panther Party in the United States was disbanded. Seven years later, Newton was involved in a gang dispute and was killed on the street.
The international forces gradually lost interest in Sear. He could not stay in Algeria, and finally returned to China to become a devout Catholic. He died in 1998. Sudden heart attack. Some scholars called the Black Panther Party the most influential black movement organization in the late 1960s, and even praised the Black Panther Party as "the most powerful black revolutionary organization in the 20th century."
