According to age, the proportion of people in their 20s who are helped by their parents is 38.9%, which is the highest among all age groups. More than half (56.5%) of people in their 30s work to pay for living expenses, but 7.0% still live with the help of their parents. Even in their 40s, 2.2% of people rely on the help of their parents. This means that 650,000 people in their 30s and 40s are living with the help of their parents.
Living expenses are provided by children (10.7%), public pensions (11.2%), and national and local government subsidies (11.1%) among the elderly 60 years and older.
Among elderly people aged 60 and above, the proportion of self-supporting living expenses is 57.7%, which is an increase of 8 percentage points from 49.7% in the previous survey in 2015.
Judging from the marital status of the population aged 15 and above, the married population is the largest, reaching 24.575 million (55.9%).
In addition, 13.688 million people (31.1%) are single,3.148 million people were widowed (7.2%), and 2.545 million people were divorced (5.8%).
The proportion of unmarried people over 30 years old is 14.7%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points from 13.2% in 2015.
From the perspective of age groups, the proportion of unmarried people in all age groups, including those in their 20s and 30s, middle-aged people in their 40s, 50s, and seniors in their 60s, has increased.
The proportion of unmarried people in their 30s has continued to rise from 6.8% in 1990 to 13.4% in 2000, 29.2% in 2010 and 42.5% in 2020, setting a record high since statistics.
This means that four out of ten Koreans in their 30s are single.
Especially for men in their 30s, the unmarried proportion is 50.8%, more than half.
In terms of educational level, men over 30 have the highest rate of college graduation (27.3%), and the highest rate of unmarried women (22.1%).
