Basic introduction

Yangtze River Pinnacle is one of the New Ten Scenic Spots in Zhongshan City. It refers to the Yangtze River Reservoir Tourist Area, which is nine kilometers southeast of Shiqi, the center of Zhongshan City. It is a reservoir-centered tourist area built in the north of Wugui Mountain, the anti-Japanese guerrilla base area. The reservoir was basically completed in 1963. It includes 6 large water pits connected inside, 7 mountain ponds and a dam, with a water collection area of 36 square kilometers and a storage capacity of 50 million cubic meters. The top of the majestic reservoir dam is more than 6 meters wide and 330 meters long. Looking into the reservoir area, one can see vast mountains, numerous mountains, endless pine forests, lush green trees, fir trees, camphor trees, neem... and many other trees that cannot be named. A source of vitality, thick green like velvet and bricks, reflected in the lake, is the "green" charm of the beautiful scenery here.

Go inside, there are deep valleys and flat lakes, there are valleys within the valleys, and there are lakes within the lakes. The water is more than thirty meters deep, crystal clear and can be seen with numerous swimming fish. Among the slopes around the lake, there are many scenic spots such as Qiren Stone (looking forward to the return of the husband), Baoya Pond (Precious Duck Soaring into the Sky), Changlongkeng Waterfall (Flying Thousands of Feet), Anlongkeng Stone Corridor (Exhibition of Strange Rocks in Deep Streams).

Historical evolution

Most Shiqi people in Zhongshan who are over 50 years old are very familiar with the Yangtze River Reservoir , because they went there to work voluntarily more than once in their youth, leaving behind a precious memory.

The Yangtze River Reservoir is not a reservoir in Zhongshan City, but it is one of the more famous ones.

A mountain pond reservoir in Zhongshan is the first Jingchun Reservoir built by Guo Xin of Zhuxiuyuan Village in this village. This reservoir is used for people to travel and swim, and can irrigate 100 acres of farmland. The construction date was 1946. In the 1950s, when primary and secondary school students in Shiqi went on outings, Zhuxiu Garden was one of the attractions they often chose.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, there was a need to drain waterlogging, fight drought, and ensure a good agricultural harvest. Since 1954, Zhongshan has successively built reservoirs such as Nanlang Baimi Keng Shantang and Cuiheng Yixian Reservoir.

In September 1959, the Yangtze River Reservoir Engineering Command was formally established. It took 6 years to build a Yangtze River reservoir with a total storage capacity of more than 50 million cubic meters in Yangtze River Village, located in the center of Wugui Mountain. The attached picture shows the majestic appearance of the Yangtze River Reservoir flood control dam taken in the 1970s. The reservoir has a designed irrigation area of 23,700 acres and is a medium-sized reservoir in Zhongshan.

In the winter of 1966, a power station was built behind the dam, and a cast iron pipeline with a diameter of 0.5 meters was installed from 1972 to begin to provide domestic and industrial water to Shiqi City. Since then, for a long period of time, it has been the main source of domestic water for urban residents.

The water in the Yangtze River Reservoir is crystal clear and as sweet as jelly. The locals have taken advantage of these characteristics of the water to develop famous aquatic products such as Yangtze Crispy Pork Dace and Boneless Dace. However, it is precisely because Yangtze River water has low calcium content and is not suitable for drinking by children, women, and the elderly. Therefore, when the modern Dayong Quanlu Water Plant, which draws water directly from the Xijiang River, was built in the early 1990s, Zhongshan people switched to drinking Pearl River water.

What is also eye-catching about the Yangtze River Reservoir is the "Yangtze River Paradise" amusement park built in front of the reservoir dam. It was completed in 1983, at the beginning of reform and opening up. It was known as the earliest and largest modern entertainment venue in southern China. Its "bumper cars" and "tumbling speed cars" were refreshing at the time, attracting tourists from more than half of China. In the 1985 selection of the "Ten Scenes of Zhongshan", the Yangtze River Reservoir gained the reputation of "The Rainbow Shadow of the Yangtze River" due to its beautiful mountains and clear waters and the majestic appearance of a "rolling speeding car" like a rainbow hanging down from the ground, and became one of the ten sceneries. On the side of the dam, a hotel with 11 floors in the main building was also built. This was the Yangtze River Hotel at that time, and it was renamed Yijing Holiday Hotel in the early 1990s.

When Zhongshan City selected the "Top Ten Scenic Spots of Zhongshan" for the second time in 1998, the Yangtze River Reservoir was once again universally loved by Zhongshan people and became one of the ten scenic spots with the reputation of "Green Yangtze River".

However, what I feel more nostalgic for is the natural and simple beauty shown in the attached picture before the completion of the "Yangtze Paradise" and the hotel. I wrote a short article about it in 1980, and I would like to excerpt some as a record of the situation at that time -

"The car arrived at the Yangtze River Reservoir, just as the showers were beginning to break. I looked up at the majestic dam, locking across the mouth of the gorge, and the dots of scales seemed to be shining in the sky. Climbing up the dam, I felt that the air was particularly refreshing... The sun was rising in the blue sky above, and the vast expanse of blue waves were beneath my feet. I could see the stacks of green mountains, and listen to the wind blowing from all directions...

The beauty of the lake changes rapidly. The sky suddenly becomes brighter and clearer. The trees in the distance are full of love and green. Suddenly, a rainbow bridge appears in the sky. How much does it trigger the imagination of tourists?
