On the afternoon of November 30, when Ningbo Shuangning Maritime Transport Co., Ltd. "Yongda 99" was sailing through the Gulei Peninsula waters, it received an emergency help message from the Ship Traffic Management Center of the local Maritime Bureau: Guangdong-born 5,000-ton container freighter "Yusheng 788" was in distress in the sea area. There were 13 crew members on the ship and urgently needed rescue.
After receiving the message of help, the captain of the "Yongda 99" ship, Xue Junfa, immediately directed the "Yongda 99" ship carrying steel, to advance at full speed towards the target sea area.
Due to the strong wind and rapid waves, the freighter driving against the wind is shaking back and forth on the sea, which increases the difficulty of the rescue work. It took about 3 nautical miles to travel for nearly 40 minutes before approaching the sea area that was in trouble. While notifying the five crew members on the ship to observe the sea surface carefully, Xue Junfa made preparations for rescue in advance to ensure that the crew members in distress were found as soon as possible and to be rescued.
Not long after, everyone discovered a life raft floating like a leaf in the waves. More than a dozen crew members in distress squeezed on the life raft, pounding up and down with the waves waiting for rescue.
At this time, the container cargo ship was in distress. The water in the cabin had already sunk, so the personnel on the ship had to abandon the ship urgently and escape, and there was a danger of being overturned into the sea by the waves at any time.
The biggest difficulty in rescue at this moment is that the sea is windy and high in waves. The "Yongda 99" wheel cannot be risked to get close to the life raft to avoid collision and overturning. There is also a drop of more than 2 meters between the freighter and the life raft.
Xue Junfa, based on the direction of the ocean currents and the wind direction, slowly approached with years of experience and skillful sailing skills, and seized the opportunity to rescue.
When about 20 meters away from the life raft, Xue Junfa, Xue Zhiming, Xue Yinghong, Xue Ruiqiao, Xue Haiqiao, Ye Zhongbi and other five crew members threw lifebuoys and life ropes at the crew members who fell into the sea again and again. After more than a dozen difficult attempts, the crew on the life raft successfully caught it and tied it to their waists.
After about half an hour of life and death rescue, all 13 crew members in distress were successfully rescued. Everyone immediately found clothes and quilts to keep them warm, and at the same time cooked ginger soup, provided hot rice and hot dishes to replenish their physical strength, stabilized the mood of the crew in distress, and did not feel at ease until they handed over to the local maritime department in the evening.
"Everyone runs on the sea all year round. Helping others is helping themselves. When they encounter shipwrecks, they will definitely rescue them with all their might." Xue Junfa said in an interview that in their hometown of Qiangjiao Town, Ninghai, the maritime transportation industry is relatively developed.
