Recently, Liu Jianjun, former member of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, former deputy chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of Jiusan Society, and former vice president of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, accepted an exclusive interview with China News Service, recalling the democratic party science and technology assistance work that he personally participated in.
In January 11982, Liu Jianjun graduated from Southwest Agricultural College (now Southwest University ) and was assigned to the former Fruit Tree Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (now Fruit Tree Research Institute of the Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences), and joined the Jiusan Society in 1987. In the early 1990s, the United Front Work Department of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee organized experts from democratic parties to provide scientific and technological assistance to poor farmers in mountainous areas, and Liu Jianjun also participated. The assistance work was not smooth at the beginning. At that time, rural information was blocked and farmers generally had low cultural level. Many people stick to old ideas and did not believe in the techniques mentioned by experts.

"Due to the imbalance of economic development, people were living in poverty at that time. After 1978, more than 500,000 Cangxi snow pear were successively introduced. Due to the lack of technology, it was generally low-yield or even no harvest. Many orchards only had but did not bear fruit or did not bloom at all." Liu Jianjun recalled that these fruit trees did not bloom because of their imbalance in growth. The nutrient distribution of plants was changed through "holding branches" and "twisting the tip", which promoted the transformation of vegetative growth to reproductive growth and blooming. Only bloom but not bear fruit is due to the lack of pollination varieties or improper combination. After solving these two problems and scientific management, the fruit trees have turned into a bumper yield. Through technical training, local people have changed their concepts and consciously accepted, learned and applied scientific fruit planting technology, and the situation of training, demonstration and promotion has been opened.
Liu Jianjun said that during the science and technology poverty alleviation , the expert group only had more than 80 people rushing to the grassroots level in 12 batches. Regardless of the cold winter, hot summer, wind and rain, experts carry an military water bottle every morning, carry two steamed buns, pedal bicycles, travel through mountains and rivers, and go deep into the fields to teach the comprehensive transformation technology of Cangxi snow pears. Sometimes it suddenly rains, and experts will explain and demonstrate to the villagers in the rain. There was also an old 93 expert who sacrificed his life in a car accident while transporting fruit seedlings for the villagers' base. The villagers were very moved, "Therefore, the '93 Expert' received high respect and courtesy in the local area."

Liu Jianjun also participated in the "Jiu Guang Cooperation" scientific and technological poverty alleviation that Jiu San Society has been in Guangyuan City, Sichuan for decades, as well as "Jiu Pan Cooperation" and "Jiu Mian Cooperation". Liu Jianjun's job is mainly engaged in research on citrus breeding and cultivation technology. It is understood that China is an important center of origin of citrus in the world and is also the largest producer of citrus, but in the past, most of the main varieties relied on imports. In Liu Jianjun's view, it is necessary to strengthen the research on fruit tree breeding. We must independently cultivate new varieties with ethnic and local characteristics to participate in market competition and provide the people with richer fruits."So Sichuan Province has set up a long-term special project. I serve as the chief expert and organized the joint efforts of universities and institutes in the province. I have used several five-year plans to develop breeding. The purpose is to strengthen the breeding of independent innovative new varieties while introducing, evaluating, screening, and using foreign varieties, cultivate the ethnic fruit tree seed industry, participate in international competition, and improve domestic supply." Liu Jianjun said that the citrus team he hosted has currently cultivated more than 20 new varieties, and some varieties can match and replace first-class foreign varieties.
Through variety optimization and structural adjustment, Sichuan citrus supply-side structural reform has formed distinctive features: the species are lemon, sweet orange , and hybrid citrus. The focus is on developing late maturity during the picking period, and it is on the market at an staggered peak. "Now, Sichuan lemon and late-ripening blood orange development scale both account for more than 80% of the country, and the production base of late-ripening rake tangerine and ugliness is the largest in the country. The area of late-ripening varieties has been adjusted from less than 3% to nearly 50%, becoming the top late-ripening citrus base in the country. In addition, Sichuan citrus concentrated orange juice processing production capacity is also ranked first in the country, accounting for about 60% of the country." Liu Jianjun introduced.
Liu Jianjun has served as a member of the county CPPCC, municipal CPPCC and provincial CPPCC, member of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and has participated in politics and made suggestions for nearly 30 years. Now, as a consultant to the Sichuan Provincial Government, Liu Jianjun continues to perform his functions of providing advice and advice, while still active in the front line of citrus scientific research and production, and often goes deep into rural areas to carry out technical training for rural revitalization.
