In 2014, a shipwreck of "Sewol" passenger ship , which was loaded with 476 people in South Korea, occurred in a shipwreck near Jin Island, Jeolla South Province, causing 142 injuries, 296 deaths, and 8 more people were missing.
This incident not only shocked the whole of South Korea, but also shocked the whole world. After the 21st century, there were few such serious shipwreck accidents, and people were also talking about shipwreck accidents. What's more, some people say that they want to use these people to "sacrifice"!
In order to find out the truth, South Korea had to restart the shipwreck salvage work in 2015, but if it wanted to salvage such a shipwreck weighing more than 6,000 tons, South Korea could not do it at all at the time, so they had to ask our country for help.
Finally, after a long period of calculation and preparation, the Shanghai Salvation Bureau of my country successfully salvaged the wreck. However, it was this salvage that caused my country to lose 1.1 billion yuan. So what happened? Why did this ship sink?
rolled over, Sewoho Shenhai
In April 2014, more than 300 high school graduates in Tanyuan, South Korea received a notice from the school that they would take their graduation trip once in a lifetime in a few days. The news of
made all the students cheer. Many people have begun to look forward to the scenery on the sea and their trip to Jeju Island , but they did not expect that this time going to sea would become the end of their lives.
On the morning of April 16, 325 students and 151 teachers and crew boarded the giant ship that was about to sink as scheduled with their luggage. After the Sewol departure, many students gathered together to discuss Jeju Island, and some students were playing together.
When the ship sailed near the Bianshan Peninsula, the hull suddenly tilted significantly, and even the trash can and drinks were all over the ground. No notification sounded during the broadcast. They just thought it was a "small episode" caused by the crew's mistakes, and no one was affected.
However, when the ship sailed near Zhendao, the previous situation happened again. The ship turned sharply and overturned to the left. Many students were thrown to the wall due to violent movements, and many people began to vaguely worry.
But because similar things have happened before, many people did not take it to heart immediately, but quietly waited for the notification in the room.
Just as everyone was comforting each other, a hasty broadcast notification suddenly rang: all passengers were on standby and waiting for the notification, and don't walk around at will. After repeating this sentence again, the radio also specifically reminded the teachers and students of Tanyuan High School to remain calm.
But at this time the hull has begun to tilt significantly, and many people can only stand close to the corner of the wall to maintain balance.
At this time, Cui Dexia, who had been huddling in the corridor with her classmates, obviously felt the sinking of the hull, but after waiting for a long time, no notification came from the radio. At this time, someone had already started to post videos on the boat, saying that he was very scared and hoped to be rescued as soon as possible.
Faced with the teacher and classmates who were even more panicked than him, Cui Dexia hurriedly called the coast guard for help, but the coast guard operator regarded Cui Dexia as a professional crew member and kept asking him about latitude and longitude, positioning and other questions.
Cui Dexia couldn't answer, so she had to tell them everything she could see around her. Not long after, Mokpo's coast guard went out to start rescue, and the No. 123 patrol boat also arrived at the scene at 8:58.
Seeing the patrol boat coming, many people's hearts were raised in their throats, cheering and "The rescue team is here, we are saved."
However, because a lot of cargo is scattered nearby, the patrol boat cannot get close to it, so it can only patrol around the huge Sewol. At around
9:30, the coast guard's helicopter also arrived at the scene and observed the situation at sea in real time. However, the radio on the ship sounded again, asking them to stand by on the spot and put on life jackets.
The students looked at the helicopters and patrol boats outside the window, thinking they had been saved, and most of them obediently put on bloated life jackets, stood by on standby, waiting for rescue.
After more than ten minutes, an lifeboat quietly approached the control room. The captain, deputy captain and other crew members were rescued first and then left the scene.
At this time, the students who had been in a moderate cabin for a long time but could not wait for rescue became more and more panicked. Many people took the risk of climbing onto the deck before being rescued. The people who could not come out of the cabin could only watch the sea water rise little by little.
A nearby fishing boat learned about the situation and came to rescue, but was stopped by the coast guard.
After waiting for a long time, the Coast Guard Command issued a instructions late: Don’t panic and stay calm! I don’t know who said this sentence , but there is no rescue plan or any comfort that makes everyone feel extremely disappointed.
From morning until it was completely dark, the coast guard did not have any rescue measures. The search and rescue team just fished up the ones who were climbing onto the deck. They didn't ask half of the questions about the students who were still in the cabin, and even gave instructions to abandon the boat and escape.
" The boat is tilting, mom and dad, I want to see you " is the last sentence left to parents by a student in the cabin.
It was not until the cabin full of passengers was completely submerged and the group of students had no chance of survival, and the search and rescue team began to salvage the students' bodies.
They searched and rescued 25 "body" at sea one after another, and one of them was a survivor who might be rescued by a helicopter. However, the helicopter was a senior coast guard officer. Faced with the search and rescue personnel's request for help, they kept ignoring the student. The search and rescue personnel could only use the search and rescue boat to send the student to the hospital, which eventually led to the death of the student on the search and rescue boat.
This incident immediately aroused the anger of the Korean people. They asked why the patrol boat did not contact the control cabin at the time, but the coast guard claimed that they had contacted it, but they did not contact it.
This incident has troubled countless Korean people, and the families of the victims have gathered at the door of the Korean Ministry of Fisheries Building, accusing the injustice of the matter in tears, but in the end they are the cold handcuffs of the police.
finds out the truth, and the Chinese government helps salvage
. This incident continues to ferment in South Korea. Many people have begun to speculate on the real reason for the Swolver capsized. Some people believe that the cargo accumulates on one side during the sharp turn, causing the hull to become unbalanced, which leads to the overturning. Some people believe that the shipwreck case is just a long-planned conspiracy, pointing directly at the South Korean government.
The South Korean government has tried hard to suppress public opinion on this matter, and even banned a large number of journalists and actors who speak for these victims.
In 2015, on the first anniversary of the Swol's sinking, the South Korean government finally couldn't withstand the pressure and officially decided to prepare to salvage the Swol's Sewol and search for the bodies of the nine victims at the same time.
The family of the victims shaved their heads and demonstrated
The captain, deputy captain and others who escaped at that time were also sentenced to life imprisonment. The captain failed to inform the students in time to abandon the ship and fled. Others were also sentenced to 15 to 30 years in imprisonment .
However, this Japanese ship, originally named "The Wave", is 146.6 meters long, 22 meters wide, and 14 meters high, and is really not small in size.
Since the South Korean government did not have enough financial support and had not salvaged such a huge passenger ship, it had to ask for help from the outside world.
my country's Shanghai salvage team took on this salvage task in the form of a bidding. Shanghai Salvage Bureau was established in 1951 and is affiliated to the Ministry of Transport of China. It is also one of the largest professional teams for emergency rescue and rescue in my country at that time.
This team of less than 100 people in the Ministry of Transport is equivalent to a national treasure level.
At that time, South Korea put forward very strict requirements: shipwreck must be left tilted 90 degrees and the hull structure must be kept intact. This undoubtedly adds difficulty to our salvage team for the Sewol, which is in a reverse state and rusty state.
According to the requirements put forward by the South Korean government, the Shanghai Salvage Bureau has formulated a preliminary plan and started the implementation of the plan after a long period of consultation.
The family members of the victims had a conflict with the police
After China and South Korea signed the contract, the Shanghai Salvation Bureau immediately sent the "Dali" to the South Korean waters for reconnaissance.
Because this time is different from the previous situation of correcting and then salvaging, the Shanghai Salvage Bureau has formulated a plan to " steel beam bottoming, comprehensive network sealing, overall floating, and hoisting to the shore ".
However, they soon discovered the difficulty of implementing this plan, because the location and situation actually recorded by Sewol were very different from the information provided by South Korea, which led to the failure of the original salvage plan to be implemented in a timely and effective manner.
In order to further confirm the location of the shipwreck, our country's salvage personnel could only dive into the bottom of the water again and again, and confirm the specific location of the Sewon in the dark and turbid sea water.
According to field surveys, not only did the Swage sinking position differ from the records on Korean data, but there was also a sharp and chaotic reef nearby, which increased the difficulty of work.
The installation of the steel beams at the stern of the boat was extended for 4 months and was not completed until the end of 2016.
The cost spent during this period alone is already very huge.
Since the floating plan has been changed from the original floating gondola lifting to the barge lifting method, the height of the wreck's water outlet has also increased from 9 meters to 13.5 meters, and the lifting method in the middle must be re-planned and implemented.
According to weight calculation analysis, the total weight of the "Sewol" shipwreck is about 8,000 tons. It is quite difficult to fish such a giant "as is" while ensuring that the relics of the victims are not damaged.
The first thing to do is to use the enclosed compartment of the hull itself to inflate it, thereby generating a certain degree of buoyancy.
However, after some investigation, the salvage personnel found that only 10 cabins could be used, and the buoyancy generated was only about 1,400 tons, which was far from enough to support the shipwreck. Moreover, since the hull was in a reverse state when sinking, the cabins were all underneath, and it was easy to overturn towards the deck during the ascending.
Therefore, it is necessary to add built-in airbags, external rubber floats, and steel salvage floats to provide additional buoyancy.
The desired device for these airbags also requires a lot of manpower, material resources and financial resources to support them on the hull.
and because of nearby reefs, the built-in airbags are made of DMS body armor material, and the corresponding safety valve must be equipped.
These measures can provide a total of about 1200 tons of buoyancy, which is enough to lift the bow.
But these are far from enough. Once the bow is lifted, if the constraint is not carried out, it will deflect due to the rapid flow rate of sea water.
After a series of calculations, the salvage personnel calculated that in order to fix the shipwreck, the system would have to bear nearly 200 tons of force, and in order to cope with the possible changes in the ocean at any time, the required load value would be higher.
Therefore, they plan to use two 250-ton gravity anchors, 60-meter anchor chain , balanced steel wire and 300-ton chain tensioner and other professional facilities to intersperse one by one to salvage the wreck.
analyzes the environment, equipment, variables, and the impact of ocean currents. It is precisely because of the mistake of the South Korean government in providing information on the Sewol wreck that the Shanghai salvage team suffered these losses.
On the other hand, from the economic perspective of South Korea, South Korea was not prepared for sufficient salvage at that time, and the Sewol was sunk for three years before it was salvaged again, which was a huge loss for both my country and South Korea.
After all the preparations were completed, the salvage team finally salvaged the Sewol ashore according to the planned plan. The Sewol, which had been silent at the bottom of the sea for more than four years and had buryed 304 lives, finally saw the light of day again.
It is sad that many relics of the victims were found in the Seyue, and there was also a lonely corpse of the victims, and another one was added to the number of victims. The search for eight missing persons from Sewol was also terminated at the end of October 2017.
In this search and rescue work, the Shanghai Salvation Bureau invested more than 3,000 ships in total, and the salvage staff dispatched 2,170 people, and the underwater work time was more than 13,000 hours. This project was so difficult that it became a miracle of deep-sea operations in the world.
Although my country has lost nearly 1.1 billion in this salvage work, the valuable experience provided by this salvage work is very valuable.
