China News Service, Beijing, December 1 (Reporter Ma Haiyan) The 11th (2019) Beijing College Students English Speech Competition, sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, ended on November 30 at the University of International Business and Economics. 57 contestants from 57 universities in Beijing gathered together to discuss the "mission and responsibility" of the young people in their eyes in English.

This competition consists of four parts: a set-up speech, a question asked by the judges, an impromptu speech, and a question asked by the judges. The title of the speech in the morning's rematch was "Mission and Responsibility are...". Through the online lottery group, the 57 contestants were divided into 5 groups, and the top 2 (10 in total) scored in each group and entered the competition in the afternoon finals. The finals speech titled "Mission and Responsibility for the Younger Generation". After 2 hours of fierce competition in the afternoon, one special prize, three first prizes, six second prizes, and 47 third prizes were finally produced.
Beijing Foreign Studies University student Lu Jie won the first prize, and students from Peking University , Tsinghua University, School of Diplomacy , Beijing Jiaotong University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Beijing City College, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology , and School of International Relations won the first, second and third prizes.
Jiang Xianling, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the University of International Business and Economics, said that what are the missions and responsibilities of contemporary higher education and young college students? This is not only a question for students to think about, but also a question for educators to think about. As a contemporary college student, we should realize that shouldering responsibility is important and mission is glorious, and being a qualified new young man.
Beijing College Students’ English Speech Competition is held once a year, aiming to guide Beijing College Students to study hard, apply what they have learned, continuously improve their foreign language listening and speaking skills, and actively participate in international exchanges. (End)
