Urban Taoyuan Community is located in Jian'an Street, Wuchang District. It was built in 2005. There are 17 residential buildings, of which 12 are 6-story residential buildings, and no elevator was installed during construction.

Many residents in old communities have a "elevator dream". Wang Xiaohai, who lives in Unit 1, Building 13, Taoyuan Community, the city, said that he had long planned to install an elevator.
His parents are both in their 80s and want to live with the elderly to be filial, but their parents are unwilling to move in because they have difficulty climbing up and down. At the end of 2018, the Wuhan Municipal Government issued the "Opinions on the Work of Adding Elevators in Existing Multi-Street Residential Houses", proposing to install elevators in old communities, with a subsidy of 100,000 yuan per unit.
Wang Xiaohai realizes that this is a good time. The first floor of the unit is a street-facing shop, and a total of 10 households on the 2nd to 6th floors. He went from house to house to solicit opinions and asked the community and property management committee to help hold a coordination meeting. After patient communication, all 10 companies agreed to install elevators. Funds are distributed by owners above the third floor and are reduced by floor (from high to low) and housing area (from large to small).
Wang Xiaohai said that the unanimous vote was due to the high quality of neighbors and the relationship between neighbors was relatively harmonious on weekdays.

Of course, it is not as simple as being able to successfully install an elevator. When Wang Xiaohai solicited opinions, although the residents on the lower floor agreed, they also expressed concern that lighting and ventilation would be affected. In order not to "make trouble" for the neighbors, he, Ding Weiping and a resident on the third floor, drove to the three towns of Wuhan for more than ten days, and went to the community where the elevator had been successfully installed to obtain the scriptures. In the end, they decided to install a sightseeing elevator with a stainless steel frame and a fully glass exterior wall.
In the first half of 2019, an unexpected incident occurred while an announcement on the installation of elevators was made. The old owner on the third floor sold the house, and the young new owner raised objections to installing the elevator.
"The policy at that time was to veto it, and if one person disagreed, he couldn't pretend." Wang Xiaohai said that he called and came to the door, and explained it to his reason and moved it with emotion. "Everyone has an elderly person, and everyone has an old time. Now 9 of the 10 companies have passed it." In the end, the young owner chose to "agree not to participate" and not to invest or use the elevator.
In June 2019, through bidding comparison, Wang Xiaohai and his neighbors selected an elevator company, and with the help of the street and community, they completed all the procedures and started construction.In October of that year, the elevator was officially completed and put into use.
"Installation of elevators must be considered carefully and taken into account in all aspects." Li Shunli, deputy director of the property management committee of the community, said that the preliminary preparations are not easy to do, and during elevator construction, it will inevitably affect residents' travel and generate noise. Wang Xiaohai and his neighbors made plans in advance, asking the property management committee and property management to communicate with residents of the next building and unit, and help coordinate the entry and exit of vehicles. The elevator occupied part of the green space, so they bought flowers, plants and trees for replanting, which was better than before. "The entire process was not objected to other owners."

At present, this elevator is managed by residents and has hired professional institutions for daily maintenance. The maintenance fee is 3,600 yuan per year, and the annual electricity fee is about 800 yuan. The property fee for elevator houses in the community is 1.2 yuan per square meter, and ordinary residential houses are 0.6 yuan per square meter. After installing the elevator, residents who use the elevator will pay the elevator usage fee of RMB 0.6 per square meter, which is the same as the original elevator room.
Wang Xiaohai has built a "13 Building 1 Unit Elevator User Group" and regularly publishes expenditure details and receipts for all expenses. In two years, the elevator usage fee has been deposited by more than 9,400 yuan. This money can be used as an "overhaul fund" for elevators.
"This elevator is really good, and it is a pleasure for residents, especially the elderly." Li Shunli said that he witnessed the elevator from scratch throughout the process and also participated in a lot of construction coordination and other work. After the elevator was built, residents from other buildings came to visit and inquire, and citizens from Hanyang came to "seek the scriptures".
