In recent days, Tesla has been rid of accident news and has quickly become popular in the circles of automobiles, artificial intelligence , technology and other fields. First, the expected AI DAY event in 2022 was successfully launched, and soon the global delivery data in the third quarter was officially released. I guess at this pace, the news about the next Tesla Super Factory construction address will not last long.
global cumulative delivery volume exceeded 3 million. It is unknown whether it can meet the standards in the fourth quarter
On October 3, Tesla officially released the global delivery data for the third quarter of 2022, achieving a total of 343,800 units, increased by 42.48% year-on-year, and produced 365,900 new cars, a year-on-year increase of 53.87%. Among them, in terms of car models, Model 3 and Model Y delivered 325,200 units in the third quarter, and 346,000 new cars were produced, accounting for nearly 95%. Model S and Model Y delivered 18,700 units in the third quarter, producing a total of 19,900 new cars.
In the first two quarters of this year, Tesla delivered 310,000 and 255,000 electric vehicles respectively. Together with the latest data in the third quarter, Tesla delivered more than 900,000 electric vehicles in the first three quarters. So far, Tesla's global cumulative delivery volume has exceeded 3 million units. According to Tesla's Q2 financial report meeting, car delivery volume will achieve an average growth of 50% in the next few years, that is, 1.5 million cars are planned to be produced and delivered in 2022. This also means that Tesla's global delivery volume in the fourth quarter must reach 591,400 vehicles before completing the plan.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk pointed out last year: "Tesla's delivery volume at the end of each quarter will increase significantly, which is attributed to the Shanghai Super Factory." In August this year, the Shanghai Super Factory produced the 1 millionth car, and Tesla's cumulative global production exceeded 3 million. It is worth mentioning that when Tesla announced the company's second quarter 2022 financial report, it revealed that the Shanghai Super Factory has recently undergone production capacity upgrades, with an annual output of more than 750,000 vehicles, making it the Super Factory with the highest production capacity of Tesla.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, in the first eight months of this year, new energy vehicles were exported 593,000, and Tesla China exported about 160,000, accounting for one-third of the total new energy vehicle exports. This is enough to show the important position of Shanghai's super factory in Tesla's global layout.
With the significant increase in production of Texas factory and the full production of the new factory in Berlin, it is still possible to complete the above-mentioned 2022 production plan. Moreover, according to previous data, Tesla's delivery volume in the fourth quarter of each year is significantly higher than in the first three quarters.
Cars are just "appetizers"
On the AI DAY not long ago, Tesla mainly demonstrated the humanoid robot Optimus, the research and development process of autonomous driving technology and the Dojo supercomputer. If Tesla has promoted the development of the era of mass production of electric vehicles, then AI intelligent driving technology has promoted its determination to develop AI artificial intelligence.
First of all, the concept project of Tesla's robot was unveiled and launched at last year's AI DAY. Its development process refers to Tesla's existing development process and is also equipped with many technologies with Tesla vehicles, including our well-known battery module, fully autonomous driving technology FSD, and Autopilot-related neural network technology. Overall, we first build a development platform, then integrate software and hardware development and complete subsequent testing and regulation.
From the display stage, it can be seen that the Tesla robot in the laboratory can successfully complete the daily human movements such as moving boxes, grab objects, and watering plants. It seems that it can gradually meet Musk's need to "use robots to achieve lower labor costs." But in fact, in terms of prototype display, the head of the Tesla robot still needs to be connected to the power supply or control line, and the entire operation is relatively slow, so Musk also predicts that Optimus will take 3 to 5 years to be mass-produced and launched.
On the other hand, Tesla announced the latest progress of FSD in fully autonomous driving technology on AI DAY. As of now, the number of users participating in the FSD Beta version testing worldwide has increased from 2,000 to 160,000 in 2021, and the cumulative mileage has exceeded 40 million miles. According to Musk's previous statement, the number of users tested by FSD Beta version will be expanded to 1 million by the end of the year, and the cumulative mileage will hit 100 million miles.
Thanks to the huge data support and the advancement of fully autonomous driving neural networks, Tesla FSD's recognition, analysis and decision-making capabilities have effectively improved, including autonomous driving from a parking lot to another parking lot, waiting for traffic lights according to road conditions, and responding to other participants on intersections or roads. Musk said: "At present, FSD software can be applied to road conditions in various regions around the world. If local regulatory policies allow it, we can launch the FSD Beta version of the software globally by the end of this year."
It is not difficult to see that with the existing technology of Tesla Automobile , Tesla robots equipped with its own FSD technology is not only conducive to the mutual communication and mutual benefit of the two major product lines, but also can obtain better cost control on robots of the same type and level.
Finally, the above benefits are all derived from the advancements in neural network training since Tesla applied Dojo supercomputer. Whether it is high-quality photography and video of mobile phones or the precise implementation of AI autonomous driving, in addition to the hardware cooperation, the most fundamental thing is computing power. Tesla realized from the very beginning that efficient chips can better serve autonomous driving, and strived to make Dojo supercomputer the world's strongest supercomputer system in AI training.
It was learned from AI DAY that Tesla will arrange the first batch of 10 Dojo supercomputer cabinets in the first quarter of 2023, that is, ExaPOD with computing power exceeding 1.1EFLOPS, and the automatic labeling capability will be increased by 2.5 times. In the future, Tesla will deploy 7 such clusters in Palo Alto, providing Tesla with unimaginable huge computing power for its global layout.
written at the end
Tesla has developed to this day and can no longer be discussed and judged by a " electric car brand". It can always bring people some refreshing concepts and products, which are the innovations we pursue. At the same time, we also hope that in terms of artificial intelligence and new energy, more companies and brands can go further and further and truly change people's lives with technology. As Musk said on AI DAY: "We hope not only have good ideas, but also good results. I hope everyone's understanding of Tesla will break out of the scope of electric vehicles. We have become pioneers in AI and have conducted a lot of explorations in the software and hardware levels."
