The title of this statement is: Viewpoint: City police officers and county police officers shot and killed our colleagues. Why didn't they see her mental crisis? *(Opinion:Police and debts shot our colleague to death. Why didn’t they see her mental crisis?)
The statement stated: "Yale University School of Public Health learned that on March 3, a San Diego police officer and several San Diego County Police Department officers shot and killed Li Yan (Yan) Dr. Li), we are deeply saddened. Dr. Li is a talented scientist who received her PhD in biostatistics from our school and received one of our most prestigious student awards. "The wise thing to do is to understand the origins of a co-worker's life in a police body camera footage, and it's heartbreaking to see a colleague's life ending violently in the footage of the police body camera. Our hearts sympathize with everyone who is scarred by this tragedy, and no one will expect such trauma when starting a new day."
They made their opinion in the statement, saying that it's wise to understand the origins of various events first, including: the cause of the stabbing of a policeman and the death of a 47-year-old scientist at the University of California, Berkeley.
The case occurred on the afternoon of March 3. Police officers from the San Diego County Police Department showed Li Yan the expulsion documents, and Li Yan confronted the police officers with a kitchen knife. Li Yan then closed the apartment door and the police officers asked for reinforcements.
When the police were waiting for more support, a staff member in the apartment building told them that Li Yan threatened a repair worker with a knife the day before. Police officers tried to communicate with Li Yan for about 45 minutes, but she was unable to cooperate with the police.
At about 1:30 p.m. that day, the staff opened the apartment door. In the chaos, Li Yan then raided and stabbed a police officer with a police dog. The police officer was injured and fell in the lobby aisle outside the apartment. Li Yan rushed out of the apartment, causing the police officer to shoot several shots.
