At around 22:40, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the Gansu Provincial Earthquake Bureau that no reports of property losses and casualties in the earthquake have been received, but some villages have houses and courtyard walls collapsed. Some local residents said that they felt the walls shaking during the earthquake.
According to the official measurement of the China Earthquake Network, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred at 20:48 on September 16 in Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, Gansu (38.60 degrees north latitude, 100.35 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 11 kilometers.
Mr. Shi, who lives in Shangzhai Village, Dangzhai Town, Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, said that when the earthquake occurred, he was having a meal at home.
