US Stock Research Agency reported on July 3 that well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a research report today saying that Apple supplier Largan Guang will begin shipping high-end lenses for iPhone 12 from mid-July.
Ming-Chi Kuo said that compared with the past, Largan's shipment of high-end iPhone lenses in the second half of this year was delayed by 4-6 weeks. Therefore, the peak of Apple lens shipments in the second half of the year will be September-November instead of the previous August- October.
Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in the report that shipments of Largan's high-unit-price 8P lenses will continue to grow in the second half of 2020. Since only Largan Light can produce it in the world, the unit price of 8P lenses is about US$5-5.5, which is significantly higher than the US$1.8-2.4 of 7P lenses. It is expected that shipments will reach one million levels in 2020.
Ming-Chi Kuo also predicts that Qualcomm’s new 5G flagship chip Snapdragon 875 will further increase the penetration rate of 8P lenses after it begins mass shipments from the fourth quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021.
Foreign media reports pointed out that Apple is urging its corresponding suppliers to ensure that the scheduled release date of iPhone 12 is not missed. Foreign media predict that if everything goes well, Apple will still produce as originally planned, but the initial production capacity will be relatively limited.
