Annual change monitoring in Kinmen, Xiamen
years ago, I produced a 2016-2017 urban change monitoring map of Xiamen, which was produced using spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Probably you have rarely seen such satellite images, so I will briefly introduce them here. The basic principle of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is that satellites gather energy through solar panels, then emit microwaves to the ground, receive echo signals, and then form images through a series of processes. The biggest advantage of SAR is that it is basically not affected by weather and can image all-weather, such as at night and when it is cloudy.
uses data from ESA's Sentinel-1 radar satellite. The appearance of the radar satellite is characterized by a large radar antenna , but does not have the large lens of the optical satellite.

The gray part shows little change in two years, while the colored part shows changes in the surface. Basic information

On November 28, 2016, Dongpi Construction Co., Ltd. received the third contract for the bridge. Construction is scheduled to start on December 28 of the same year and be completed in September 2020. Although
is currently in the third round of construction, satellite images show that there has been very little progress in the first year of construction, so that no significant changes can be seen. I wonder if there will be any changes in the future.
Personal thoughts
This Golden Gate Bridge and even Kinmen Island can be seen to some extent as a microcosm of Taiwan’s politics, economy, and people’s morale. Time here seems to have frozen, the rhythm is getting slower and slower, and the people are gradually Adapted to this kind of life.
Compared with the nearby Xiamen on satellite images, you can fully experience the feeling of "two heavens of ice and fire".
