Moderna New Crown Vaccine (Japan's "Mainichi Shimbun")

A research team led by Toshihide Higashino, director of the Dermatology Department of the Japan Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital, conducted a survey on 5,893 people who received the Moderna vaccine at the Japan Self-Defense Forces Tokyo Vaccination Center between May and November 2021. The results showed that 12.7 % (747 people) of the people had adverse reactions, of which 5.1% were men and 22.4% were women, which was 5.3 times higher than that of men. In addition, the adverse reaction rate among people under 30 years old is less than 10%, but the adverse reaction rate among people in their 40s is as high as 15.8%. From this, it can be seen that people between 30 and 60 years old are more likely to suffer from adverse reactions. The research team speculates that the mechanism of this adverse reaction is similar to allergic contact dermatitis and is related to gender differences in immune responses.
"Daily News" pointed out that this adverse reaction is specifically manifested as redness, swelling, pain or itching at the vaccination site after vaccination with the Moderna vaccine. This symptom is called "Modena arm" symptoms. This adverse reaction usually occurs about a week after receiving the Moderna vaccine. It is different from the adverse reactions of all other vaccines, and the cause of its occurrence has not yet been identified.
