Every night around 7 o'clock, Shaoxing Mr. Liu posts a short check-in video of his son Lele reciting ancient poems on Moments on time. In the

video, Lele, with only her upper body exposed, is sitting or standing, reciting ancient poems eloquently. She looks no different from other children.

But if the camera moves downward, you will see that his legs are covered with protective gear, and his posture when standing is still a little crooked.

In 2018, Lele, who was 5 years old at the time, fell from her home on the 18th floor. After nearly 2 years of treatment and recovery, he struggled through each dangerous hurdle and is now able to walk with a cane.

Doctors involved in the treatment said that this was simply a medical miracle. And this little boy who is less than 7 years old has greater ambitions. He originally planned to enter elementary school this year and decided to postpone his enrollment for a year. "I want to walk to elementary school by myself."

html The 15-year-old fresh life fell from a high building and stopped from shutting down Pingfei

During the National Day holiday that just passed, Lele met her kindergarten playmate after two years of absence. The last time

met, these little friends were still little brats who fought with him for toys and had tantrums. Now, they are all freshmen and are adapting to the elementary school life of sitting upright in class and being restricted from watching cartoons when they go home.

Time did not block the friendship between the children. After a brief period of unfamiliarity, the boys immediately started playing and playing around again. But their running range has been significantly reduced, because Lele, who is using crutches, cannot walk normally and freely.

Mr. Liu and his wife looked on, feeling happy and distressed at the same time, "Because every step he takes will take ten or even a hundred times the effort than ordinary people. What is happy is that he can finally integrate into the lives of his peers relatively normally." They couldn't imagine such a scene at the beginning of Lele's accident.

November 22, 2018, is a day that Lele’s family will never forget. It was originally an ordinary Thursday. Grandma stayed at home to take care of Lele, mother sent her eldest son to school, and Mr. Liu was on a business trip in Hangzhou.

At around 8 o'clock in the morning, Mr. Liu suddenly received a call from the community security guard, "Your child fell." Grandma was busy drying clothes, and without paying attention, Lele fell out from the balcony on the 18th floor of her home and passed a tree. After the buffer, it fell to the ground.

When he rushed to the local hospital, Lele had been sent to the operating room for rescue. The child was breathing weakly, unconscious, and his blood pressure could not be measured. Before he even saw his son, he signed several critical illness notices at the doctor's request.

In order for Lele to receive better treatment, the family unanimously decided to transfer him to the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University, but they were worried that the fatigue of the journey would cause secondary injuries. Mr. Liu thought of the helicopter on the hospital's helipad and immediately applied for "air ambulance" from the local hospital and Zhejiang University Children's Hospital.

Before boarding the helicopter, they finally met Lele. It was a pale, bloodless little face with purple lips. A ventilator was inserted into his nose. No matter how his parents called him, he remained motionless and unresponsive.

Conservative treatment or risky surgery? The parents chose the latter for their aggressive son.

Mr. Liu and his wife spent the 22 days at the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University guarding the door of the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit).

When he couldn't hold on anymore and fell asleep, Mr. Liu often had a dream: Under a ray of white light, the door of the SICU opened, and Lele ran into their arms, calling "Mom and Dad"...

But In reality, when the closed door of the SICU opens and doctors call their names, they often bring bad news: severe contusions on the lungs, contusions on the liver, spleen, kidneys, pancreas, intestines, and fractures of ribs, clavicle and other parts. Multiple spinal fractures, spinal cord injury, intracranial injury, coma score of 6 points...

Tan Linhua, director of the SICU of Zhejiang University Children's Hospital, told them that there are two treatment options: conservative treatment can save lives, but the best recovery effect is to sit for a lifetime. A wheelchair or bed; risky surgery. Once successful, the child will hopefully return to a normal life in the future; but there is also the risk of being unable to survive during and after the operation.

Faced with this life-or-death decision, Mr. Liu and his wife did not hesitate much and unanimously chose surgical treatment.Because they know their son very well, he has been very strong since he was a child and is not willing to spend his whole life in a wheelchair. When

was in kindergarten, Lele would go home depressed for a while because she couldn't compete with other children in the ball game. Driven by his competitive spirit, he practiced on the balcony every day when he returned home, until he finally caught up with the others.

"If we choose conservative treatment, he will definitely complain about us when he grows up and becomes sensible. Moreover, I believe that my son will survive."

After Lele's condition became relatively stable, the Department of Orthopedics, Trauma Surgery, and Anesthesiology of Zhejiang University Children's Hospital , operating room and other departments cooperated to perform spinal surgery on him. After the operation, the head of the Department of Orthopedics, Director Ye Wensong, told them that the lesion was found and the operation was successful. The extent to which the child can recover in the future depends on the child's perseverance and the cooperation of the parents.

These words not only made the couple temporarily relieved, but they also felt a heavy pressure on their shoulders.

took the initiative to ask for more training. He said, "I want to walk to elementary school by myself."

On the 15th day after the operation, Lele's circulation and breathing were stable, his infection indicators were normal, and he met the discharge standards.

The scene after the SICU door opened this time was closest to Mr. Liu’s dream. Lele could not walk yet, and her vocal cords could not make a sound due to long-term intubation, but she smiled very brightly. "It was almost the brightest smile I have ever seen of him, but as soon as we started talking to him, his tears immediately fell down."

Considering that there is Dabao in elementary school at home, and the physical requirements of accompanying him are high, Liu then The husband took Lele alone to the rehabilitation hospital in Nanjing to continue treatment, and his wife returned to Shaoxing to work.

In the next year, the separated couple suffered their own pressure and torture.

In Nanjing, Mr. Liu can only sleep for 3 to 4 hours at night because Lele has to turn over every once in a while, otherwise he will develop bedsores. Sometimes the exercises were too difficult, and Lele couldn't find the feeling of muscle exertion. He would inevitably feel frustrated and blamed himself, and he became anxious.

In Shaoxing, my wife could not concentrate on work, and she always thought about Lele. As a mother, her child is undergoing difficult training but she cannot be with him. She is surrounded by a strong sense of guilt every day.

What pleased them was that Lele was conscious and sensible and did not need adult supervision at all. Most of the other children train during the day and sit in wheelchairs to play with other children at night. He was the only one who took the initiative to urge his father who was cleaning up the dishes, "Should we train?"

Now, Lele has returned to his home in Shaoxing, living a fulfilling life: going to the local rehabilitation hospital for treatment every Wednesday and Friday morning, and spending the rest of the time Study in the morning and train in the afternoon. At home, he can already walk independently with a cane, but outside he still needs help.

Mr. Liu said that he originally planned to let his children go to elementary school as scheduled in September this year, but he did not want to trouble teachers and classmates at school, so he postponed it for a year. Lele’s idea was simple but firm, “I want to walk to school by myself.”

The scene of Lele playing with her friends in the park increased the couple’s confidence. Both physically and mentally, the child seemed to be doing well. In preparation for returning to normal life, "Now that the first step has been taken, I believe that the next two, three, four, and five steps will be more relaxed and confident."
