This should first be attributed to the strong production team behind the album, especially her renewed collaboration with musician Chang Shilei . The two previously collaborated on the album "Gaia", for which they won the Best Female Singer and Best Arranger awards at the 24th Golden Melody Awards respectively. Lin Yilian's singing skills and Chang Shilei's arrangement ability helped "Gaia" win the Best Mandarin Album Award. This time, Chang Shilei was also responsible for the arrangement, harmony writing and editing of the album "0". He also wrote lyrics and music for several singles "Solar System", "Return to Zero" and "Hallucination Animals".
If the previous album "Gaia" discussed the relationship and acceptance of the self and the world, "0" is more about women's consciousness and experience. In terms of arrangement style, the entire album is also quite diverse. The opening song "breath in...breath out" uses a low and soothing piano sound to accompany the vocals, like a woman's self-talk at midnight, meditating on how to live every day. The arrangement style of "Solar System" is more psychedelic, and the lyrics seem to have lost their specific reference. The illusion and reality create a psychedelic artistic conception, making the listener feel as if he is floating in the solar system on the song. When it comes to "Chavinity", the style has changed to electric rock, the rhythm is more enthusiastic, the arrangement is layered, and the lyrics have changed from ethereal to heavy.
"Shawen" is the title song of the entire album. It tells the story of the awakening of female consciousness. It was produced by Lin Yilian and a group of male musicians, including her boyfriend Gong Shuoliang and the lyricist Wu Qingfeng , arranger Chang Shilei and harmony Mayday Ashin . Lin Yilian first asked in an accusatory tone whether the violence between men and women is "genetic remote control or the temptation of control." In this relationship between men and women, women are often the oppressed party. For example, she sang "invisible violence", "silence under fear", "indifference and scars" and so on. Women are like flowers, but after withering, they are pushed to death, and their dignity is trampled on at will. The single "Return to Zero" can be seen as a continuation of "Chauvin". For Lin Yilian, Return to Zero means rebirth. Chang Shilei said of her: "The only thing that hasn't changed about Sandy (Lin Yilian's English name) is that she is always changing." Constant change means always returning to zero and being reborn. This change-loving character makes her never afraid of the unknown. Instead, regard the unknown as the only expectation. The author especially likes this lyric: "Since the unknown is the only expectation/I will simply chop the ordinary into dry wood." Corresponding to the lyrics, the feel of the soundtrack is more enthusiastic and optimistic. It is not worth regretting the past. Brightness follows darkness, and the only thing worth looking forward to is the future. This song by Lin Yilian is very contagious and is my favorite in this album.
After the enthusiasm, "0" returns to calmness and soothing breath. The lyrics and music of "Hallucination Animals" were written by Chang Shilei. The melody is light and the lyrics are beautiful, which goes well with Lin Yilian's magnetic voice. Her low singing seems to be telling the delicacy of female emotions, but not entirely, but connected to something higher and deeper into the heart, making people intoxicated, like hearing the fairy music in the sky or seeing a mirage. .
