September 17, 1943, early in the morning, at the mouth of the river west of Fu'an Town.
A Japanese military transport ship with a plaster flag slowly docked near the river bank. Not long after, a dozen Japanese soldiers with guns rushed out of the boat, shouting, and arrested everyone they met.

The fishermen and villagers on the shore who had not yet had time to escape were immediately driven to the boat. Next to the transport ship, the fat translator standing next to the Japanese officer immediately pointed to the ammunition boxes loaded on the ship and ordered everyone to carry them into the city.
Sheng Donggen was also among those arrested. At this time, he couldn't help but secretly lament his bad luck.
Sheng Donggen originally planned to go to Xiaodong Township for business today, but when he thought of the old man Wang on the Hekou side, when he passed by Weili Village a few days ago, he mentioned to himself that there was a copper ladle missing a handle at home, and asked him to go to his house to help install one when he passed by.
With this thought in mind, Sheng Donggen took the coppersmith's pick and swung his "copper skewer" (in the old days, coppersmiths walked the streets holding skewers made of five pieces of copper) and arrived near the mouth of the Xiyang River early. But before he could put down his choice, he encountered the unfortunate incident of Japanese soldiers disembarking from the ship to capture Rafe.
Sheng Donggen was captured by the Japanese army and could not escape. He had to follow other villagers and get on the boat to carry ammunition boxes. At the beginning, everyone followed the Japanese army leading the way and entered Fu'an Town. Following the instructions of the Japanese army, they put the ammunition into the warehouse.

But while moving, Sheng Donggen suddenly realized that there was something big to make here.
Because the leading Japanese army led everyone to the warehouse, he stayed there and directed everyone to move. Along the way, except for the Japanese troops who left patrols from the river mouth to the entrance of the town, there were no Japanese patrols on the streets in the town.
I think the Japanese army also believed that since everything had been moved to the town, there would definitely be no problems under their noses.
But who would have thought that this midwinter root would be a bold and unconventional master.
After Shengdonggen moved the second box, he thought about it, oh, no one will care about this after entering the town! Since no one is patrolling, who knows whether I have moved to the warehouse?

Shengdonggen walked around all day long, and often heard that the New Fourth Army was short of ammunition to fight the Japanese. Now that he saw the opportunity to take a few boxes of ammunition from the Japanese army and contribute to the New Fourth Army's anti-Japanese war, he couldn't help but feel faintly excited.
Sheng Donggen was very familiar with this place in Fu'an Town. What's more, he also knew that the Zhu Family Courtyard in the West Street alley usually had few people because the owner did not live there.
is a good place to hide ammunition!
Sheng Donggen carried the ammunition box and calmly passed the Japanese guard post at the entrance of the town. After walking on Fu'an Street for a while, he observed that no one was paying attention nearby, and then ducked into a nearby alley.
After entering the alley, Sheng Donggen immediately quickened his pace and came to another alley in a zigzag manner. After confirming that he was completely out of sight of the enemy, he quietly arrived in front of the Zhu Family Courtyard on West Street.
Shengdonggen placed the ammunition box in the grass at the door, then climbed over the wall and entered the courtyard. At this time, the courtyard was empty and overgrown with weeds. Sheng Donggen gently opened the door bolt from the inside, then went out to carry the ammunition in, and hid it at the foot of the east courtyard wall where the weeds were thickest.
After doing this, Shengdonggen closed the courtyard door ajar, then quietly returned to the street, walked out of the town with a normal expression, and walked towards the transport ship at the mouth of the river again with other villagers.
However, it was the height of winter at this time. When I looked at the ammunition boxes on the ship, my eyes couldn't help but shine. When I moved the ammunition boxes, I always picked the heaviest ones to carry. The Japanese soldiers watching on the side couldn't help but secretly give a thumbs up - this man is really hard at work.

On that day, Shengdonggen carried ammunition back and forth, turned halfway to the Zhu family compound, hid the ammunition quietly, and then turned back to the transport ship to continue carrying ammunition. By the end of the day, Sheng Donggen had hidden a total of eight boxes of ammunition.
"On that day, there were a lot of ammunition boxes, and the transporters were also mixed. The Japanese did not count the quantity and found something wrong. Then I went back with everyone." Many years later, Sheng Donggen recalled the past events of that year and was still filled with emotion.
A few days later, the local guerrillas received news from Shengdonggen that there were several boxes of ammunition hidden in the Zhu family compound in the town. The local area has been worried about the lack of ammunition. When they received this unexpected news, everyone couldn't help but be overjoyed.
The next night, more than a dozen guerrillas followed Sheng Donggen and quietly came to the town.

Then according to the location indicated by Sheng Donggen, he successfully took away the hidden ammunition box from the Zhu family compound, and then managed to deliver it to the station of the First Division of the New Fourth Army. Sheng Donggen himself received special praise from the New Fourth Army.
In those war-torn years, there were countless grassroots heroes who rose up in the darkest moments, but eventually disappeared into the long river of history. Although these stories hidden in the long river of history are rarely known, they are still an indispensable part of the magnificent picture of the People's War.
