Today, let’s introduce a very precious old photo of the Republic. This photo can be seen in many public places. When I was very young, I saw it on stickers at home. There are mainly four people in the photo, all of whom are great men from the Republic.
From left to right are Mr. Zhu, Premier Zhou, Chairman Mao and Liu Shaoqi. The photo was taken in November 1964 and was located at Beijing Airport. The four great men were all smiling happily, Premier Zhou held flowers in his hand, and it was obvious that he was the protagonist of the photo.
At that time, Premier Zhou had just led a delegation back from the Soviet Union. Premier Zhou often visited abroad. Not every time Chairman Mao would go to the airport to greet him back. This time was very special. Not only Chairman Mao, but also Liu Shaoqi, the then President of the State, and General Zhu, Chairman of the National People's Congress, all went to the airport to welcome Premier Zhou and his party.
The main leaders of the central government are here, why is it so grand? What kind of story is behind it?
In 1964, something big happened in the Soviet Union, that is, the former supreme leader Khrushchev suddenly stepped down. The reason is that he voluntarily resigned due to his age and deterioration of health. In fact, everyone can imagine what the reason is.
Khrushchev stepped down, Brezhnev took office. What should China do? Although Sino-Soviet relations had deteriorated at that time and Chairman Mao and Khrushchev had a very unhappy quarrel, the central government still decided to send Premier Zhou to the Soviet Union in person to congratulate the 47th anniversary of the victory of the October Revolution.
47th anniversary was not Daqing, and the Soviet Union did not take the initiative to invite him. Why did Premier Zhou go there in person? The main thing is to take this opportunity to have direct contact with the new Soviet leader, exchange opinions, and seek opportunities to improve the relationship between the two countries and the two parties.
Premier Zhou went to unite and friendship. After arriving in the Soviet Union, the other party's reception specifications were also very high, but the Soviet side's attitude was very cold and surveillance of the Chinese delegation was very strict. Even some old friends in the past did not say hello, let alone reminisce about the past.
Various signs indicate that the situation is not optimistic. At the 47th anniversary of the victory of the October Revolution held in the Kremlin in , Premier Zhou wanted to speak, but the Soviet Union refused. They only arranged for Brezhnev to speak.
Brezhnev's speech has fully demonstrated that he does not intend to change Khrushchev's approach to China. At the dinner that day, something very unpleasant happened, which greatly damaged the relations between the two countries. At the dinner, Premier Zhou and Marshal Cui Kov and Marshal , Sokolovsky, and Marshal 4 were both old friends, and they had dinner at the same table. Marshal Sokolovsky was very well-educated. He praised China's nuclear tests for being good and should continue to develop, which would scare US imperialism.
Sokolovsky's attitude is friendly, and Chairman Mao also praised his military works. Marshal Cui Koff is also very enthusiastic. At this moment, another Soviet marshal, who was also the Soviet Minister of Defense at that time, rushed over. His name was Malinovsky.
The Chinese should be familiar with this name. He was the commander of the Soviet Far East Military Region. In the late Anti-Japanese War, he led the powerful Soviet Red Army into Northeast China to fight against Japan, defeating the Japanese Kwantung Army. Objectively speaking, Malinovsky contributed to the liberation of Northeast China.
However, because of this, he often regards himself as a benefactor towards China and has a relatively arrogant attitude. Malinovsky, with a smell of alcohol, spoke rude to Premier Zhou: Chinese people should not use political magic.
(In 1958, Marshal Peng Dehuai shook hands with Malinovsky)
There were politicians from various countries at that time, and Premier Zhou did not attack on the spot. He pretended not to hear it and wanted to go around. Unexpectedly, Malinovsky actually shouted at Premier Zhou: Don’t let any devils hinder our relationship. He even attacked our great leader, Chairman Mao.
is really outrageous.
Premier Zhou felt that this person was not good, so he did it on purpose, so he said to him, I don’t understand what you said. Malinowski was still chattering there. The other Su marshals rushed over to smooth things over and persuaded him to stop.Premier Zhou immediately filed a solemn protest to Brezhnev.
Brezhnev explained that Malinovsky was drunk. Premier Zhou immediately retorted that he was speaking the truth after drinking. As soon as the party ended, Premier Zhou immediately came to the Chinese Embassy and reported the situation to the country overnight.
Early the next morning, Brezhnev came to visit Premier Zhou in person and apologized. Premier Zhou pointed out incisively that Malinovsky did not speak out after drinking, but spoke truth after drinking. It was not a simple personal behavior, but a reflection that the Soviet leader will continue to adhere to Khrushchev's scheme and conduct subversion activities against China.
In fact, the Soviet Union did not punish Malinovsky afterwards. That's their attitude. Premier Zhou was very tough and returned to China soon.
Chairman Mao and other central leaders personally went to the airport to greet him, in order to show that the central government fully agrees with Premier Zhou's position and attitude during his visit to the Soviet Union. Sino-Soviet relations completely deteriorated from then on, and even the later Zhenbao Island conflict occurred.
