Changji City is a county-level city in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is managed by Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture . It is the capital of Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the whole prefecture. It is the satellite city of Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region. Changji City was the predecessor of Changji County.
On September 25 and 26, 1949, the Kuomintang Xinjiang military and political authorities announced an uprising, returning to the people, and Xinjiang is peacefully liberated. The Xinjiang Branch of the CPC Central Committee sent 15 members including Wu Jinping and Li Tian to Changji County to engage in the establishment of the people's regime.
In March 1950, Changji County established the county party committee leadership body of of the Communist Party of China, and Wu Jinping served as the county party secretary. Under the leadership of the county party committee, a democratic coalition government began to be formed.
In April 1950, Changji County held the first People's Congress of All Ethnic and All Circles, determined the government's work policies and tasks, and elected the county people's government committee and main leaders. At the meeting, Li Tian was elected as the county magistrate of Changji County, and the Changji County People's Government was established, which was under the jurisdiction of Dihua (now Urumqi City).
On July 8, 1954, Changji Hui Autonomous Region was officially established. Changji County is a county where the people living in Hui are relatively concentrated and are classified as under the jurisdiction of Changji Hui area. Changji County is the seat of the Changji Hui Autonomous Region Prefecture.
March 1955 "Changji Hui Autonomous Region" was changed to "Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture". In order to meet the needs of economic construction and social development in Changji County, the capital of Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture.
On July 21, 1983, the State Council's "Reply on Agreeing the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's abolishment of the establishment of Changji City in the establishment of Changji City in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region" [83] Guohanzi No. 142 approved, agreeing to abolish the establishment of Changji City (county-level city) in Changji County, Xinjiang.
On December 22, 1983, the Changji County Party Committee and the Changji County People's Government held a meeting and officially announced the abolition of Changji as a city. Changji City is still under the jurisdiction of Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. The names of the Party Committee, Government and other organizations and units of the former Changji County are all named Changji City.
