I lived on the streets in the city during my childhood and adolescence. I was in elementary school at that time. Childhood was a wonderful process. I lived an unfettered life and was curious about everything that happened around me. , the impression was also particularly profound.
On March 5, 1962, Chairman Mao Zedong issued an instruction to learn from Comrade Lei Feng. As a model of the era, activities to learn from Lei Feng were vigorously launched across the country and implemented into actions.
One time, my mother and I went to Dongguan Street to buy a water tank. When my mother and I were staggeringly carrying the heavy water tank home, a People's Liberation Army soldier suddenly came up, took the pole from my shoulder, and kept carrying it. The water tank was brought to my house.
When my father saw this soldier helping me carry the water tank through the door, he thanked me repeatedly and asked for his name. The soldier said: "I am from the garrison, my name is the People's Liberation Army!" After that, he left.
"My name is the People's Liberation Army!" This is a sentence that Lei Feng left to people when he did good deeds without leaving his name.
At that time, the song "Learn from Lei Feng's good example" was heard from time to time on the street. This song was played every day on the cable broadcast speaker hanging next to the south gate of the radio station; many People's Liberation Army soldiers appeared at the city gate giving people haircuts; women came up People on the streets are sewing buttons and mending clothes; young students are cleaning the streets.
In the age of learning from Lei Feng, good people and good deeds emerged in endlessly, and everyone's spiritual outlook took on a new look. Everyone was proud to learn from Lei Feng and do good deeds, and the social atmosphere also changed greatly.
Now it seems that promoting the development of social civilization requires not only laying the material foundation, but more importantly, improving the level of spiritual civilization.

Because only a small amount of funds are allocated, it all relies on support from all walks of life. The money spent was saved as much as possible, and most of the props were made by oneself. For example, the military uniform worn by Lei Feng was borrowed from the garrison; the loudspeaker and microphone were borrowed from the broadcast station; and the lamps were borrowed from the photo studio.
The actors are all selected from various units. Rehearsing the drama is all voluntary dedication. There is no reward. Even if they work overtime, no one will complain.
The choice of actor for Lei Feng was finally decided on Mr. Sun Antang, the webmaster of the county radio station.
It has been 60 years, and I can still remember him firmly. He has good features, a medium build, speaks standard Mandarin, and his voice is beautiful and magnetic. In my eyes, he is the standard image of Lei Feng.
My father went to the People's Theater rehearsals every day. He and several other colleagues served as the planners and directors of the play. At that time, everyone concentrated on arranging the program and put publicizing, learning from, and acting Lei Feng into action.
In order to perform well, the actors even made a special trip to Nanjing to observe and learn.
In the scene where Lei Feng sends a woman off on a rainy day, a tin plate is manually shaken to create the effect of thunder. The stage is covered with silver paper strips, and lights are used to illuminate and simulate raindrops.
The People's Theater is the largest support unit for rehearsing the play. It not only provides the venue free of charge, but also agrees to charge a cost of 5 cents per ticket during the performance.
After the performance of "Lei Feng", it caused a huge response. Many schools, institutions and military units took the initiative to contact the crew and requested additional performances so that they could organize students, employees and soldiers to watch.
Fifty years later, my father once wrote an article and recalled that at that time, everyone really regarded learning Lei Feng, acting as Lei Feng, and following Lei Feng as an example as people's conscious actions.
Mr. Sun Antang, the actor who played Lei Feng, has always been in my mind. I thought he was Lei Feng, and I was one of his fans at that time.
A few years ago, I learned that Mr. Sun Antang returned to his hometown in Zhouji, the countryside, after his retirement, to entertain his grandchildren and take care of himself.
In the winter of 2021, Mr. Sun Antang passed away.
