He has been awarded as an advanced individual in leprosy prevention and control work many times. He once won the "Ma Haide Award", one of the highest honors in the Chinese medical community. In addition, he also won the China Leprosy Prevention and Control Association. In 1982, Cheng Bin, who was only 22 years old, gave up his job opportunity in the county town and went to the "leprosy village" where no one wanted to go and tried his best to come back. village". The "Leprosy Village" covers an area of ​​1,830 acres and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The terrain is steep and cliffs can be seen everywhere. The traffic is very blocked. The narrow paths leading to the whole village are winding on steep slopes and cliffs. At the foot of the mountain is the rushing Xining River. Suspended across the Xining River is a 50-meter-long iron cable bridge. This is still an important channel for the "Leprosy Village" to communicate with the outside world. At that time, a total of 86 leprosy patients were admitted, and the treatment and management pressure was very high. . After unremitting efforts, the leprosy prevention and control work of Pingshan County passed the national acceptance in 2000, reaching the standard of basically eliminating leprosy.

Patients in the "leprosy village" live in four wards. To get from the office to the ward, you have to take a boat across the Xining River and then walk along a mountain road for two hours. In 1987, the patient Peng came home and found that all the land had been contracted to each household, and he had the idea of ​​​​suicide. After hearing this, Cheng Bin immediately rushed to the rescue. The bridge leading to the ward was washed away by the flood, and he could only cross the bridge by feeling the rope. He accidentally stepped into the air and survived because the rope got stuck. However, he still endured the pain and rushed to the ward to rescue the patient. Later, the wound became infected and left a permanent scar. In his opinion, such a situation is commonplace. In 2007, Cheng Bin went to Group 15 of Jieji Village, Pingbian Yi Township, to follow up and monitor leprosy patients, deliver medicines, and check their family members. On the way back, due to the high mountains and dangerous roads, as well as more than 7 hours of riding a motorcycle and trekking on foot, the car accidentally overturned and my right forearm was severely burned by the car.

Because he works in a "leprosy village", Cheng Bin has also become an object of avoidance. On the boat heading to Anbian Town, Yibin County, because of an acquaintance's words: "If you become leprosy, where will you go?" The passengers immediately stayed away from him. Even the local villagers took a detour when they saw him. No one wanted to be with him during weddings and weddings. When he was at the table, everyone called him "Leper". What makes him feel guilty is that he has not fulfilled his responsibility to take care of his wife and children. Due to the special nature of his profession and limited manpower, he only has one day off per week and the long journey means that Cheng Bin only has a few hours at home.
