I don’t know when it started. Whenever we think of our old mother, we will care about his health and her porridge.
Since his father passed away a few years ago, his elderly mother has stayed alone in her remote rural hometown.
Before, my mother went to the city to live with us for a while, but she always said that she couldn't stand it and was not easy to play with.
Mother had many reasons to go back to her hometown. She said that she had never studied, and even went out to buy vegetables. Sometimes she would go around a few more times and could not even find it in the southeast, southwest and northwest.
Besides, she basically doesn’t know the neighbors in the community, and there is no one who can really chat with each other.
The mother said that she couldn't get used to the food in the city. If she returned to the village, planted some side dishes, raised some chickens, ducks and geese, she would go to chat with her neighbors when she was free. If she was on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, she could go to visit temple fair , and that kind of life was what she wanted.
We stand from the mother's perspective, and the same is true. Fortunately, although she is nearly 80 years old, she is still healthy, so we followed her. However, in private, we often ask neighbors, relatives and friends to help take care of her.
After returning to the small mountain village, my mother not only raised more than ten chickens and ducks, but also two big white goose . From then on, my mother and we had endless eggs and planted more than two acres of vegetables from the land.
In addition to cabbage, lettuce, green beans , chard , radish , my mother also planted many kohlrabi and pepper , and of course, a lot of ginger, onion, garlic.
I said to my mother, "You grow so many vegetables, you won't take them to the street to sell them. Can you finish eating alone?"
My mother replied to me, "In addition to me, I have to eat chicken, duck and geese at home. In addition, I can also give some to Aunt Zhou, Uncle Li and Zhang Yaopo in the village. If I can't finish them, I will make them into kimchi and take them back to the city to eat when you come back from the Spring Festival."
Mother said to me again. He said, "I remember that last time I went to your vegetable market to buy two pieces of ginger and a few peppercorns, which cost me more than ten yuan. It tastes not as delicious as the kimchi I made, and it is still as expensive. I know you love to eat kimchi. Anyway, I am also playing at home alone. I will make a few jars of kimchi for you, and I will save you hundreds of dollars! It costs money everywhere in the city. If you can save a little, save a little!"
"Mom, you are right. Who told you that the kimchi you made is so delicious? Well, we will follow yours!" I replied.
My mother was a good farmer when she was young. The crops and vegetables she grew not only grew well, but even the kimchi she made was a favorite of her family, relatives and friends. I remember when we were young, we could finish two large bowls of white rice with just a few pickles and soaked peppers. A relative came to visit her and insisted that she grab some pickles and taste them. When she went back, she didn't forget to take away a small bag.
Every year when the Spring Festival is approaching, my wife and children clamor to go back to their hometown to see their mother, and they are even more greedy for their mother's soaked sauerkraut.
But after the Spring Festival every year, I faced the difficulty of parting with my mother again and again. At that time, my mother always hunched over and helped us prepare delicious foods, including sausages, bacon, dried sweet potatoes and dried bamboo shoots, and the delicious soaked sauerkraut.
As my mother worked hard to make several jars of sauerkraut were divided up by our sisters, my mother was not at all worried. Instead, she looked happy and relieved, and said that she would make more kimchi for us to eat next year.
During the Spring Festival this year, we were happily preparing to divide up the pickled cabbage from our mother and take it home. However, the eldest and second sisters said that the kimchi made by our mother was not as delicious as in previous years, so they only brought a few small bags and took it away.
Mother said that it might be that the drought in summer encountered heavy rain, and the drying was not collected in time. If you don’t eat it, how can I finish it?
I quickly told my mother that although the taste was a little worse than last year, it was still much better than what was sold outside. If my sister and I don’t want it, pack it all for me!
After hearing this, my mother happily went to find a few food bags and helped me put all the remaining kimchi on.
The sisters brought back a lot less kimchi this year, but I packed several large bags, which were 40 or 50 kilograms. After returning to the city, except for a small part of the neighbors, the rest was placed in the refrigerator and some were placed in the kimchi jar.
This year, due to busy work and sometimes on business trips, I have relatively fewer days to cook at home. Has my mother called me and asked me, have you finished eating the kimchi you brought back during the Spring Festival?
Then I remembered the sauerkraut my mother gave me. I quickly opened the refrigerator and kimchi jar and saw that some of them were still edible, but most of them were broken.
I had to bear the pain and throw away the broken kimchi. My wife looked at it and said, "If your mother knew about it, she would feel so distressed. You couldn't eat so much at the beginning, why did you bring so much back?"
I said to my wife, I'll call my mother first.
This time I lied to my mother on the phone. I told my mother that the kimchi you brought us had almost eaten all the kimchi, and there was still a little left. We ate a lot and gave some to our neighbors. But we cook less at home now. This year, you should not make so much kimchi, otherwise you will not be able to bear it and we will not be able to finish it.
After hearing what I said, my mother said happily, "I thought the kimchi I made last year was not delicious, and you all had it bad. As long as you like it, it's good. However, this year I encountered a drought and there were few vegetables. You want so many kimchi in previous years, but I still have to make some for you, otherwise you will have no kimchi when you come back from the Spring Festival."
I replied, we will definitely find you to make sauerkraut during the Spring Festival. No matter how many you have, you have to do some with us, as long as you don’t get tired!
is indispensable, and it is indispensable, and it is not exhausted! While answering me, my mother hung up the phone happily.
Only after talking to my mother on the phone did I say to my wife, don’t tell my mother about the broken kimchi! Whether the kimchi is broken or not is not a question of whether it is wasted money or not, but the mother’s selfless care and dedication to us. The kind of ties that are always recognized and depended will keep the mother young and happy forever.
After hearing what I said, a trace of tears came from the corner of my eyes, but soon she showed a knowing smile again, threw herself into my arms and hugged me and said, "Husband, this year's Spring Festival, we still have to go back to our hometown early and find our mother to get more and more sauerkraut!"
