In the Tang Dynasty era, there was a special rule in the law: the first month, May, and September are the long fasting months of Buddhism. Killing is not allowed, and animals must be actively released on the ten fasting days of each month.

In the Tang Dynasty of my country, Emperor Qianyuan was a compassionate and benevolent emperor. He also advocated the prohibition of killing and releasing animals, but where should the released fish be released?

So he thought of a good idea and issued an imperial edict, ordering localities to build life-release pools. A total of 81 release pools were built in various places. Each release pool was engraved with inscriptions. The inscriptions erected were written by famous scholars and great calligraphers, such as Yan Zhenqing, etc. Their name stickers are still circulated in the world.

Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty in the Tianxi period was also a benevolent king. After the Wang Anshi war, he issued an imperial edict and ordered the world to build a life-release pond in every county.

The current West Lake in Zhejiang was the largest release pond built by the country at that time, but unfortunately it has now become a killing pond for fish farming and fishing.

From a historical perspective, the Tang and Song dynasties were the most prosperous eras for life release.
