Buddha’s precepts stipulate that you cannot grow a beard. Generally speaking, Buddha statues have no beard. The Buddha in Tianshui Gangu is unique and has a beard. Why is this? One theory is that the Buddha-creator may be the believers of Tantric Buddhism, and most of the Buddha statues with beards are Tantric Buddha statues .
According to research, the Great Buddha of Daxiangshan is Sakyamuni Buddha, and the Great Buddha of Gangu is a semicircular carved stone-tied clay sculpture, 23.3 meters high, 9.5 meters wide on the shoulders, 5.8 meters high on the head and 6 meters long on the knees. Its shape is tall and majestic, and it is admirable. Whether viewed from the bottom of the mountain or from the cave, it gives people a kind and tranquil feeling. The cultural characteristics can be regarded as an artistic masterpiece that perfectly combines Western decorative sculptures and Chinese freehand sculptures.
So, the question is: Can Buddha statues have beards? Of course, it can be found. The "Buddha's Practice Sutra" says: "I have shaved my hair and my hair is gone, but I have only two moustaches that cannot be shaved."
