Bodhidamo, a native of the southern Indians, belongs to the Brahmin caste. Since childhood, he has been smart and quick-witted, and has a super-intelligent understanding, and is determined to promote the Mahayana. Later, he was proficient in the study of concentration and had profound attainments. Because I felt sorry for this area, I came to Zhongdi from the sea during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, first arrived in Guangzhou, and then to Jinling . I talked about Buddhism with Emperor Wu of Liang, but because I didn't get along, I crossed the river to Northern Wei . Wherever he goes, he teaches people the Zen Dharma. At that time, preaching was popular in the Buddhist community in China. I heard that Damo taught Zen and Dharma, and was surprised and repeatedly ridiculed.

There were two monks at that time, one was called Daoyu and the other was called Huike . Although he was a young descendant, he was a Mahayana and loved Zen. Since he met Damo, he knew that he had met a good teacher, so he taught him. Within four or five years, they followed each other, served with sincerity, and felt their sincerity. They taught the Mahayana method of peace of mind: peace of mind (the principle of entry), distribution (the practice of entry), follow things, and convenience. He also told them that although Buddhism is vast and vast, there are two most fundamental ones: one is “the rational entry” and the other is “the practice entry”.

Through the teachings, I deeply believe that all sentient beings have Buddha nature, but they are hindered by the troubles of the foreign world and cannot see Buddha nature. If you abandon the false and return to the truth, and concentrate on the wall, you will have nothing to do without others. Ordinary and saints are equal, and you will stick to it and not follow other teachings. This is the talisman of Taoism and underworld, and you will be silent and inactive. This is the "reason entry".

The so-called "action" is mainly the practice of teachings, and all actions are included in it. Among them are the "four actions": one is "repaying grievances", which means that those who practice Taoism should regard it as the result of their past lives pursuing the roots and ends, and having many evil karmas in their past lives. Although they have not done evil karma in their current life, they have all the sufferings in front of them because of the retribution of evil karma in their past lives. Therefore, they are willing to endure all kinds of sufferings without any resentment. This is as stated in the sutra: "If you suffer suffering, you can be calm because you have achieved the cause and effect of the three lives." When this mind arises, you can correspond to the truth, and you can advance to the Tao in an unjust way. The second is "action according to circumstances", that is, sentient beings are originally selfless, all caused by past karma, and all sufferings and happiness are born from conditions. Even if there are honors and rewards, they are all good deeds in the past life and can only be received today. After the fate is over, everything will return to nothing. How can you be happy about it? All honors, disgraces, gains and losses are all in accordance with the circumstances, and the mind does not increase or decrease. The eight winds do not move in the mind, and their behaviors are in line with the Tao. This is "doing with the circumstances". The third is to say "nothing is required to do", which means that people in the world are obsessed with long-term obsession and greedy for and obsessed with everything. This is "seeking". Those who practice Taoism can understand the truth, contrary to people in the world, and be at ease with nothing, this is "nothing to seek". If you blindly pursue persistence, because all the three realms are suffering, how can you have happiness? Therefore, the sutra says: "Those who have something to be greedy will suffer endlessly; those who have nothing to be greedy will gain true happiness in Dharma." The fourth is "called Dharma practice", which is the principle of purity of nature. This Dharma is empty and has no form, and is free from contamination and attachment. Those who practice Taoism should act as Dharma, without contamination and no attachment, and benefit themselves and others. This is called "calling Dharma practice". Damo promoted this method in the Han area and realized the truth. He took refuge and believed it, recorded his words, and became popular in the world.
