In a remote village, there are two children. Because they are all orphans, no one has disciplined them since childhood. The two children let themselves go without reins. By the time they were twelve or thirteen years old, they had already embarked on the evil path. He is idle all day long and has become the "public enemy" of the whole village.
At the beginning, although the people in the village hated these two children, they were the sons of an acquaintance after all. They pity their parents for dying early. Although they kept making mistakes, everyone turned a blind eye and at most they scolded them and taught them a lesson.
But these two guys became more and more demanding, which eventually led to the villagers being unable to bear it. Everyone tied them up together and decided to send them to the government and asked the government to discipline them.
Halfway through, I happened to meet Sakyamuni who preached everywhere. Sakyamuni stopped the escort team. After asking the reason, he said, "Tell them to me, let them follow me, and I can influence them to turn from evil to justice, and you will not feel guilty towards their parents."
The villagers had long heard of Sakyamuni's deeds and were happy to hand over the two bad children to him.
From then on, the two children followed Sakyamuni to the temple. Of course, the Buddha would not make things difficult for them. He just took out two strings of Buddhist beads and asked each of them to wear a pair on his wrist. He also said that you must do good deeds and do your homework every day like other monks, and be responsible for carrying water, chopping firewood, sweeping the floor, watering crops, etc. If I am lazy, I will know at the first time that I will hand you over to the government to suffer.
The two children became little novice monks. In fact, they were very scared and very resistant to the suffering they were sent to the government. Over the years, a kind monk finally trusted himself so much that he immediately put the Buddhist beads on his wrist.
For a long time, both of them worked diligently according to the Buddha's arrangements. But over time, one of the slightly older and taller children discovered the secret.
It turns out that the Buddhist beads worn on her hand cannot automatically inform the Buddha of her situation, which means that even if she is lazy and does not work, she will not know as long as the Buddha is not discovered.
Since he learned this secret, the tall
But as long as you leave Sakyamuni's sight, this guy hides in the corner and doesn't work at all, and even does some bad things occasionally.
At the beginning, the tall child thought that he had found the trick to be lazy and must be very happy.
But except for the surprise on the first day, from the second day, he not only did not have any fun, but he felt even more painful and even became anxious and worried all the time. Once he was discovered by the Buddha, he would send himself to the prison of the government to suffer.
So, the tall novice monk immediately thought of asking about his closest partner. After listening to his statement, the short novice monk seemed very calm and said that the period when he lived in the temple was the happiest time he had ever remembered.
The tall novice monk was puzzled and asked him loudly, why is this? You and I are all trapped here, although they are not in the prison of the government, there is no difference at all.
The short novice monk smiled and said, "That's you, the reason why you feel pain is because you are enslaved, and I am indeed voluntarily and free, so I have no feeling of pain at all."
The tall novice monk didn't understand at this time. Seeing that his best companion was so obsessed, he was excited and told the secret that he had been hiding for a long time:
You don't know that the string of Buddhist beads we wear on our wrists are actually just ordinary beads. It cannot automatically transmit our movements to the Buddha, and it has no so-called supervision effect at all. And you work honestly every day, don’t you just think that Buddhist beads can convey messages?
A short novice monk heard this and said to him calmly that when the Buddha rescued us from the escort team, I was always grateful for his openness and redemption for me.
I was willing to come here to work. As for the Buddhist beads he mentioned, they do not exist in my eyes. How can they be regarded as the Buddha's supervision over us?
So, all my behaviors are the true manifestations of my heart. Where is there any place where there is no freedom? I also gained real happiness.
But you only remember the Buddhist beads. There is always a Buddha in your heart monitoring and supervising you in the dark, which makes you feel enslaved no matter what, so you cannot get happiness at all.
At this time, Sakyamuni walked out of the quiet room where he was meditating and said to the short novice monk, "Child, you have truly been enlightened. As long as you continue to practice diligently, happiness will never leave you."
Tall novice monk also understood everything at this time, nodded frequently, and at that moment he also gained the happiness he had lost for a long time.
