The Buddha Tathagata sent Guanyin Bodhisattva to the Tang Dynasty and gave Tang Monk a brocade cassock and a nine-ring tin staff. He also chose three disciples with great supernatural powers, namely Sun Wukong , Zhu Bajie and Sha Monk .

In order to allow Tang Seng to arrive in the Western Heaven smoothly, Tathagata gave her three hoops before Guanyin set out, asking her to use these three hoops, namely Teng, Jin, and Ban, to acquire three apprentices for Tang Seng.

When introducing these three hoops, Tathagata said: "This treasure is called a 'tight hoop'. Although it is the same three, its uses are different. If you encounter a demon with great supernatural powers on the road, you advise him to learn well and be a disciple of the person who seeks sutra. If he doesn't obey, he just needs to put the hoop on his head and he will naturally see the flesh taking root. With a spell, he will keep his eyes swelling and headaches, and his forehead will be cracked. Come into our door."

But Guanyin only used one hoop when recruiting team members for Tang Monk, which is the tight hoop used on Sun Wukong, and Zhu Bajie and Monk Sha did not receive such treatment. The other two hoops are used to conquer other powerful monsters, namely , black bear monster, and red boy.

The black bear spirit is called a forbidden hoop. In the seventeenth chapter of "Journey to the West", after Wukong and Bodhisattva transformed into seducing the black bear spirit to take the pill, the black bear spirit fell to the ground, "The Bodhisattva was afraid that the demon would be rude, so he threw a hoop on the demon's head." This is the forbidden hoop.

Black Bear Spirit is also known as Bear Monster . It was originally a black bear. He lived in the Black Wind Cave in the Black Wind Mountain. He has been practicing for many years and has become a monster. He has a black tassel spear, good at changing, and has great methods. He had fought with Sun Wukong many times, but he had no choice but to win or lose. In the end, Sun Wukong had to ask for help from Guanyin Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva used the forbidden hoop among the three bans of gold to subdue him, so that he could convert to Buddhism, and take the precepts, and after guarding the Luojia Mountain in the South China Sea, he became a great god to guard the mountain.

Guanyin Bodhisattva used a golden hoop to conquer the Red Boy. In the 42nd chapter of "Journey to the West", Red Boy is put on the last golden hoop.

Red Boy is the son of Bull Demon King and Iron Fan Princess . nicknamed the Holy Infant King. He uses a 18-foot fire spear, and has extraordinary martial arts. He often fights barefoot with people. He has practiced in Flame Mountain for three hundred years and has refined the magic of Samadhi True Fire. He uses the Five Elements Cart, spits fire from his mouth and sprays smoke from his nose, and has great skills. Red Boy himself has average force and is defeated in 20 rounds of battle with Sun Wukong, but his Samadhi True Fire is very powerful. When Sun Wukong rescued Tang Seng, he had a big battle with Red Boy and was almost dead and alive. Later, he asked , the Four Seas Dragon King, and it was difficult to destroy the true fire of Samadhi even if it rained. In the end, Sun Wukong had to invite Guanyin Bodhisattva to subdue Red Boy. Guanyin Bodhisattva put five golden hoops on Red Boy, which was one of the three golden hoops. Red Boy finally followed Guanyin Bodhisattva to be a boy of Shancai and achieved the right result.
