In Tibetan Buddhism, as a monk with the highest religious rights in Buddhism, the Panchen Lama had stricter precepts than ordinary monks during his monastic period. Not only could he not get married, but he also needed to forget all the seven emotions and six desires in the world.
But in the long six hundred years that followed the Panchen Lama system, From the first Panchen Lama to the eleventh current, there was a Panchen Lama who married his wife and gave birth to a daughter, and thus became the only Panchen Lama who returned to secular life because of marriage.
The young 10th Panchen Lama
This person is Queji Jianzan, who was selected as the reincarnated spiritual child at the age of 3.
In June 1978, the 10th Panchen Lama and his wife Li Jie held a grand wedding ceremony at the National Culture Palace. From the day of their marriage, he took off his cassock and officially returned to secular life. He never put on the monk's robe that once symbolized a loft.
Five years after marriage, the 10th Panchen Lama and his wife gave birth to a daughter and named her "Yaoxi Ban Renjiwangmu", which represents the "Holy Mother of Wisdom" in Tantric Buddhism.
The 10th Panchen Lama looked like a treasure and loved this daughter very much. Although he has been secular for many years, he is still respected and loved by people in Tibet. Therefore, as the daughter of the Panchen Lama, Renjiwangm is affectionately called "Princess Renji" by believers in Tibet.
Although the 10th Panchen Lama had been living a happy and fulfilling life after returning to secular life, many people still expressed their confusion about this. Some people even directly raised questions: "How could the Panchen Lama marry and have daughters?"
This starts with the experience of the 10th Panchen Lama himself.
The young "reincarnation of Living Buddha"
The 10th Panchen Lama is an outstanding patriotic religious leader, a famous social activist, and a close friend of the Communist Party of China. He devoted all his life to the country, the nation, and the cause of Buddhism.
On February 3, 1938, the 10th Panchen Lama was born in a Tibetan peasant family in Wendu Township, Xunhua County, Qinghai Province. His family is a descendant of the Sakya clan in Tibet and has a close relationship with the Central Plains in history.
There was a record in "Wendu Temple Chronicle" that the Tibetan Sakya clans were ordered by the Shizu of Yuan, Kublai Khan, to manage religious affairs in the Tibetan area, and have always been loved and supported by the people.
1937, the ninth Panchen Lama passed away. After learning about this situation, the National Government allocated funds in 1941 to approve the search for the reincarnated spirit child, preparing to find the next Panchen Lama.
In the same year, the 10th Panchen Lama, who was only 3 years old, was selected as the reincarnation of the ninth Panchen Lama. In June 1949, he was approved as the 10th Panchen Lama by acting president of the National Government Li Zongren , and was named Luosang Chilie Lunzhu Quejijianzan, abbreviated as Quejijianzan.
After that, in August of the same year, the National Government sent formal officials to Qinghai to preside over his bed ceremony, so he officially became the legal Tenth Panchen Lama and was admired and admired by the majority of monks and believers.
After the founding of New China in 1949, although the Tibet region successfully expelled the interference of imperialist forces, it still retained some party-fighting issues left over during the War of Liberation.
Although the National Government has collapsed across the board, some criminals in Tibet try to take advantage of the opportunity of the newly established New China to disrupt national unity and national reunification.
The 10th Panchen Lama immediately contacted the leaders Mao Zedong and Zhu De on October 1, and expressed his firm support for the Communist Party of China and the Central People's Government. When he called Mao Zedong, he said:
"The Communist Party represents the motherland, so I firmly support the Communist Party."
This move also successfully won Mao Zedong's recognition.Mao Zedong immediately replied to the 10th Panchen Lama:
"I hope you can work with patriots in Tibet and fight for the unity of the Han and Tibetan peoples in Tibet liberation and the Han and Tibetan people."
From this point of view, the 10th Panchen Lama has been running on the road to liberating Tibet and maintaining the reunification of the motherland.
In 1950, the 10th Panchen Lama sent a delegation to Beijing, paying its highest respects like the Central People's Government and putting forward solutions to the Tibet issue.
In Beijing, he clearly expressed his views to Tibet and the whole country for the first time to maintain the reunification of the motherland and oppose separatism, which had a huge impact on the vast majority of Tibetan Buddhism.
In April 1951, the 10th Panchen Lama went to Beijing again to support and promote negotiations between the Central People's Government and representatives of the Tibetan local government on the peaceful liberation of Tibet.
Mao Zedong personally met with the 10th Panchen Lama at the Tiananmen Gate Tower and signed the "Agreement between the Central People's Government and the Tibet Local Government on the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet" (also known as the "Seventeen-Agreement").
After the signing of this agreement, a new situation has finally emerged in ethnic unity in Tibet. With the promotion and implementation of this agreement, the reunification of the motherland has also taken a step further.
Premier Zhou and the 10th Panchen Lama
1954, the 16-year-old Tenth Panchen Lama became the vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and became the first youngest CPPCC chairman in the country.
"Without the Communist Party, there would be no today," is the catchphrase of the 10th Panchen Lama.
This handsome, intelligent, elegant and generous boy always spends more than half of his time promoting the party’s policies and calling on believers and monks to love the Communist Party. And whenever the call begins, he will use this mantra as the beginning.
The monks and believers who listened to his lectures also gradually established the correct values of loving the party and patriotism under his influence.
1956, the 10th Panchen Lama was appointed as the first deputy chairman of the preparatory committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region by Central Government.
He led the monks to India to participate in the commemoration of the 2500th anniversary of Sakyamuni Nirvana, and won the honor of the Indian Bornees Buddhist University, Buddhist doctoral degree.
While visiting India, the 10th Panchen Lama met Zhou Enlai, who was also participating in the visiting event in India at that time.
When he saw Zhou Enlai excitedly, he held his hand, and once again expressed his opinion to Zhou Enlai seriously and seriously:
"Prime Minister, don't worry, the central government, I will never be affected by the outside world, and I will definitely do things according to the requirements of the central government."

In that era of crisis and separatists were ready to move, the 10th Panchen Lama did indeed always implement his promise. Not only did he stand up when rebellions occurred in Tibet and some people obstructed the reform, he also actively organized patriots in Tibet to establish an anti-severance team, effectively defending peace and stability in Tibet.
In March 1959, the Central Committee appointed the 10th Panchen Lama as the acting chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Preparatory Committee. Since then, the 10th Panchen Lama has worked harder to maintain the reunification of the motherland and ensure the stability of the Tibet region.
He read Chinese history, the history of the Communist Party of China, Marxism-Leninistry and the "Selected Works of Mao Zedong", and began to study Chinese hard.
The staff around the 10th Panchen Lama recalled that he grounded the " Xinhua Dictionary " from square to round, white to black, and new to old, but at the same time, the Chinese proficiency did reach a new level and altitude.
In 1978, the central government organized a group of inspection teams to visit various places to see the changes in the mountains and rivers of the motherland. Among them, special democrats such as the 10th Panchen Lama were invited.
The deputy captain who led the group at that time was the former Kuomintang general Dong Qiwu, which also laid the groundwork for the Tenth Panchen Lama to form a marriage between the mortal world.
Love
0 The 10th Panchen Lama was the youngest in this inspection team, so he and Dong Qiwu had a closer relationship with the guards of similar age.
After several months of living together day and night, during a heart-wrenching conversation, the young Panchen Lama revealed his voice to the guard: He wants to find a partner to get married.
When the guard heard this, he quickly found Dong Qiwu's granddaughter, Li Jie, who had a good relationship with him, and asked her to introduce some female companions to the 10th Panchen Lama to meet.
Li Jie was less than 20 years old at this time and was still studying at the Military Medical University. When she heard that it was the Panchen Lama that she was looking for a marriage partner, she couldn't help but become curious about the tenth Panchen Lama.
For the young guard, there is not much difference between the Panchen Lama and other people in the team, but it is just younger.
But Li Jie grew up by Dong Qiwu since she was a child and knows these historical allusions well. Although she has never met the Tenth Panchen Lama, she has also heard of him, so she wants to meet the Panchen Lama in person.
The simple-minded Panchen Lama heard that a girl was willing to meet him, and did not ask about the reason carefully. He thought it was the object introduced by the guards, so he happily agreed to go there.
But neither side understood clearly, and the meeting between the two was not a blind date at all.
But it was precisely under such by chance that the 10th Panchen Lama was able to see the woman he fell in love with at first sight. Li Jie is not only beautiful but also has rich knowledge. The two can't stop chatting.
Panchen Lama, who had never had any emotional experience, also seemed very honest and straightforward in the process of getting along with Li Jie, which made Li Jie feel very fond of him soon.
Just like that, the two of them slowly fell in love as they went back and forth. But for the relationship between the two, the people around them are not optimistic.
On the one hand, the tenth Panchen Lama was once a religious leader, and the two had too many differences in backgrounds. The Panchen Lama was in his 40s, and the two had too many differences in age; on the other hand, he was still under supervision, not completely free identity. So Li Jie's family, including her grandfather Dong Qiwu, was very opposed to being together at first.
But after all, the power of love is great, and the tenth Panchen Lama and Li Jie both have unthinkable determination, so in 1979, they still got married desperately.
Although this marriage failed to receive the blessings of Li Jie's family, it was still approved by the central government. The 10th Panchen Lama never wore a cassock, only a Tibetan robe. Even if he participates in major religious activities, he will show his married identity.
983, the two gave birth to their only daughter and named her Yaosi Ban Renjiwangm.
When Renji Wangmu was born one hundred days ago, Deng Yingchao and Xi Zhongxun both came to congratulate him. In addition, Deng Yingchao personally gave Renji Wangmu a nickname, "Tuantuan", hoping that the Han and Tibetan nations can be united and reunited forever.
The 10th Panchen Lama later took office as a member of the Constitutional Amendment Committee of the People's Republic of China and the Chairman of the Foundation for the Development of Tibet. He continued to strive to maintain the cause of the motherland and national unity.
Unfortunately, in 1989, the 10th Panchen Lama died of a sudden heart attack due to overwork.
It can be said that his life is full of legends. Although he is a living Buddha, Panchen Lama, he married and had children. Even if he returned to secular life, he is still supported by believers and monks.
This is mainly because he has been living all his life to support the Communist Party of China and achieve national reunification and national unity, so he can be respected and respected by so many people.
So, can the Panchen Lama get married? In fact, from a institutional perspective, intermarriage of living Buddhas in Tibetan areas is feasible.
Tibetan Buddhism is a relatively important branch of Chinese Buddhism . It has been circulated for thousands of years and has successively formed important sects such as Nyingma, Kagyu, and Glu, which are distributed in Tibetan and Mongolian and other ethnic settlements.
The reincarnation of a living Buddha is a unique inheritance system in Tibetan Buddhism, and its original meaning is "incarnation".
In Buddhist theory, the saying is that because the souls of all sentient beings are immortal, they will be constantly reborn in the six realms of reincarnation.
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas manifested themselves in the world to save sentient beings. Therefore, after Buddhism was introduced to Tibet, there was a saying that the reincarnation of a living Buddha was believed to be the incarnation of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in Buddhism, and they will continue to reincarnate in the world and produce the reincarnation of Buddhas.
So as an important inheritance system in Tibetan Buddhism, the importance of living Buddha is self-evident.
But strictly speaking, living Buddhas are not equivalent to monks. Before they formally orphan or take precepts, they were not monks, just like ordinary people.
So the living Buddha can not only get married, but also have children to continue the offspring.
However, Panchen Lama is different. If it has undergone a certain religious procedure and is approved by the central government, it will be officially recognized as the reincarnation and inheritance of the Panchen Lama in the previous life.
Especially after a series of formal ceremonies such as ornament, taking precepts, taking Dharma names, and sitting on the bed, they actually became monks from ordinary people.
Therefore, if you want to ask the Living Buddha if he can get married, the answer is of course OK. But if you ask whether the Panchen Lama can get married, the answer is no in terms of system and precepts.
As the only reincarnated living Buddha who made an exception among the Panchen Lama, the reason why the 10th Panchen Lama was able to get married was mainly because before that, his Panchen Lama had already died in name only, and since then he was the same as an ordinary living Buddha.
In addition, this marriage has also been approved and recognized by the central government, so the two can get married smoothly.
If you want to ask again about the Panchen Lama’s descendants, can you still get married and have children like him? The answer should not be possible. So if nothing unexpected happens, Renjiwangmu will also become the only daughter of the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama in all dynasties.
successors
Renjiwangmu, like the 10th Panchen Lama, not only cares about the motherland, but also cares about all the people in Tibet.
After my father's death, the young Renjiwangmu and his mother Li Jie depended on each other for life. After finishing elementary school, my mother sent her to the United States to study.
Because in 1991, Li Jie, who had already received higher education, planned her daughter's learning and development route after thinking about it for a while. Renjiwangm has been studying in the United States since he was 13 years old.
From junior high school, high school and then to university, when I graduated from university, Ren Jiwangm, who has achieved some academic success, has received many olive branches from famous overseas universities, including the world's top schools such as Oxford and Cambridge.
But she no longer took a look at these schools, because she already had a place to go in her heart, and her efforts over the years were for this step - Returning to China to study for a doctorate at Tsinghua University !
In fact, since her birth, Renji Wangmu has been constantly learning Tibetan and Tibetan culture under the influence of her father. When she was still very young, her father's influence as the Panchen Lama was deeply imprinted into her heart.
She was very touched by the "unity" that the 10th Panchen Lama often talked about, because in Tibet, if one of the parents is Han or Tibetan, then the child they gave birth to is the "unity tribe".
Renjiwangm said that he belongs to the "unity clan".
In 2000, Renji Wangmu, who was almost 18 years old, returned to Tibet with his mother to mourn his father. Renjiwangm also felt a responsibility when he saw photos of the 10th Panchen Lama enshrined in almost every Tibetan home.
"Everyone loves his father so much. I always feel that I should do something for these ordinary people, because I am my father's daughter. I knew at a very young age that no matter what I do, good or bad, it directly affects my father's reputation, so I have that sense of responsibility since I was a child."
With this sense of responsibility and insight, Renjiwangm worked harder after attending Tsinghua University. At the same time, she also set a goal in her heart: continue the career that her father has been doing.
2008, Renjiwangm brought the Seva ophthalmic medical aid project to the Tibetan area through her own efforts, bringing hope to see the light again to several cataract patients.
2010 Yushu earthquake, Renjiwangm donated money and supplies as soon as possible, and transported the supplies a week later Send the convoy to the disaster area, and also brought more than 2 million supplies to the compatriots in the disaster-stricken Tibetan areas.
When the Yushu earthquake was rebuilt after the Yushu earthquake, Renjiwangmu continued to invest in the construction of the school. Not only donated money and materials to many affected schools, but also built a new school for students whose school was destroyed during the earthquake.
After graduating from Tsinghua University, Renjiwangmu also worked in important financial positions such as deputy director of the Central Bank Cooperation Department of the People's Bank of China and deputy director of the International Monetary Fund Department for outstanding academic performance.
She is playing the same role in her own position. The role of her father, the Tenth Panchen Lama, is to actively promote unity and stability in Tibet and play a role in the reunification and peace of the motherland.
As the daughter of the Panchen Lama, she deepened her belief in patriotism and love for religion to the entire Tibetan region, but as herself, she worked hard to make continuous contributions to the national financial construction. Although she is not like the Panchen Lama, she still shines with the light of selfless dedication.
The Tenth Panchen Lama family
Now, the Tenth Panchen Lama has passed away for thirty-three years. Just like Comrade Deng Xiaoping praised him as "a best patriot in our country."
We are very pleased that in ethnic areas, we can still have many patriotic people who inherit his patriotic legacy like the Panchen Lama daughter. Everyone is constantly working hard for national unity and peace and stability in the Tibet region.
believes that in the near future, our motherland can become better and stronger due to unity!
