" Surangama Sutra " is known as the key points of Zen, the grand outline of the teaching network, the true meaning of becoming a Buddha, and the key to cultivating the mind. It is actually the essence of the teachings of a generation. . The great master of the generation, Mr. Yuan Yin, has a thorough understanding of both sects and religions, and his explanations of the profound and subtle concepts of the Surangama Sutra are incisive, thorough, and easy to understand. Unfortunately, most of the nearly 100 tapes that the old man gave on this sutra have been lost, and only about 30 tapes have been found and compiled into documents. Under the guidance of teacher Qi Zhijun, later disciples supplemented the missing parts of the Sutra interpretation based on the "Essential Interpretation of Surangama" narrated by the old man Yuan Yin. Among them, the scriptures are placed in square brackets [], the narration part of the old man Yuan Yin is in Song style, and the supplementary part by the later disciples is in italics.

Due to the limited level of the organizer, there will inevitably be errors and omissions. We hope that all the good teachers will spare no effort to teach us so that we can correct them in time. Contact email: 1530384358@qq.com.

The Buddha has been teaching the Dharma for forty-nine years. He talks about completeness and partiality, and talks about suddenness and gradualness. It is nothing more than randomness. Holding all sentient beings Different foundations and different opportunities make it easier to respond to diseases and medicines. All sentient beings need Buddha Dharma, and similarly, Buddha Dharma cannot be separated from all sentient beings. Just like medicine is designed to treat diseases, without the disease, the medicine has no value. The Buddha preached completely in response to circumstances in order to cure the diseases (heart diseases) of sentient beings, so the Dharma he preached was different in each period. This is because the diseases of all living beings are different. To cure the disease, the medicines used by doctors should not be the same. Therefore, the Buddha's teachings are the teachings of opportunity and principle. The Buddha taught the Dharma for forty-nine years, divided into five periods.

(1) Huayan period: The first explanation is Huayan period. Just like when the sun first rises, it only shines on the mountains. This is the 37th day of the Buddha's first enlightenment. He performed the wonderful principles of the True Dharma Realm and appeared in the thousand-foot-long Lushena body. He preached the Dharma for the great Bodhisattva, said the "Great Buddha Huayan Sutra", and turned the supreme Dharma wheel. , talking about self-realization Dharma, talking about the realm of Hua Zang , and saving the great Bodhisattva. The Avatamsaka Sutra is a talk about the Buddha’s extreme nature, which people with a Hinayana background could not accept, so the great Bodhisattva who taught him compared the first sermon to raw milk (milk). Raw milk can be eaten by adults, but not by children. Because children’s digestive abilities are weak, they may suffer from diarrhea after drinking raw milk. Although milk is a precious thing that can nourish human life, just like the Dharma taught by the Buddha can nourish our wisdom and life, people with small faculties cannot accept it, just like a child who gets diarrhea after drinking raw milk.

(2) Agama time: that is, the time when the "Agama Sutra" is spoken ( Agama is translated as incomparable dharma, which means that all dharmas in the world are incomparable), also known as Luyuan time. At this time, the sun can shine on the lower mountains. The Buddha saw that people with small faculties could not accept the Mahayana. Due to this reason, the Buddha taught people with small faculties the Agama Sutra and the Four Noble Truths and 12 in places such as Deer Park for twelve years. The teachings of cause and condition, etc., can save the sravakas and pratyekabuddhas. I taught the Bodhisattva to compare it to "cheese", which means that raw milk can be brewed into cheese, and children can eat it without diarrhea.

(3) square equal time : The third time statement is square equal time. During this eight years after the time of Agama, the Buddha introduced the lesser to the greater, praised the Mahayana, criticized the Hinayana, and preached Vimalakīrti and other sutras to the beginning Bodhisattva of the Mahayana, because the Hinayana people were satisfied with less and refused to advance. In order to seek the superior vehicle, Tathagata held meetings with other people, and used Vimalakīrti and other great masters to sing to each other. He tried his best to repudiate the small ones, sighed and praised the big ones, and made them feel ashamed of the small ones and admire the big ones, so that they could return to the Buddha's vehicle. In short, partial circles are combined, power is implemented, and the purpose is to bring the small into the big. At this time, it is like the sun shining on the plateau. At this time, the saying is a step further than cheese. The cheese is turned into crisp, which is the "crisp" of butter tea. However, this crisp is still "raw crisp" and the taste is not very good.

(4) Prajna time: The fourth time is Prajna time. The Buddha taught the Dharma for forty-nine years, and taught Prajna for twenty-two years. There are eight major parts in total, which are summarized into the Mahaprajna Sutra , with as many as six hundred volumes. Because the Buddha-nature is formless, inexpressible, and indescribable, it cannot be named by name or marked by appearance. Therefore, when teaching Prajna, two powers and one reality are used, that is, two powers and one practical method. "Power" refers to skill and convenience. There are two kinds of skills: one is to explain the principles according to the foundation of sentient beings; the other is to express the original wisdom of the Buddha skillfully and freely, that is, to use names and images that are easy for sentient beings to understand to express metaphors that are difficult to understand. It is formless and true, but it teaches skillfully and conveniently. "Real" refers to the true teaching, which tells the true Buddha Dharma and the One Vehicle Dharma, which directly points to our Buddha nature, true nature, and the emptiness of all dharmas. The Huayan period belongs to the real Dharma, the Agama and Fang periods belong to the Quan Dharma, the Lotus Nirvana period belongs to the real Dharma, and only the Prajna period uses both the Quan and the real Dharma, so the Prajna period has the function of connecting the past and the future. And because Prajna is the core of the Buddhist teachings and the guide to becoming a Buddha, the Buddha never left Prajna in his teachings in one generation and five seasons, so the Prajna Dharma connects both the front and the back. At this time, it is like the sun rising high and shining brightly on the plains. I will teach you the analogy of "cooked cake". It means that the "cooked cake" has changed from raw to cooked and tastes better. This is what I said to the great Bodhisattva.

(5) The time of Lotus Nirvana: The fifth time is said to be the time of Lotus Nirvana. At this time, Sakyamuni Buddha's first phase of Dharma destiny will be complete, just like the sun sets over the western mountains, the Buddha will pass away and enter Nirvana. Let me compare it to "daigo", which has the best taste among milk. Why is it likened to a delicious meal? Because in the last eight years, the Buddha taught the "Wonderful Dharma Lotus Sutra" and other Dharma, they were pure and without authority. He did not teach other Dharma, nor the Dharma of authority, but only the One Vehicle Dharma. At the Lotus Assembly, in order to explain the true nature of all dharmas, the Buddha gathered the three vehicles into one Buddha vehicle, talked about his nature and expressed his original thoughts freely. Because the Buddha was about to enter nirvana at this time and there was no time, so he preached the Dharma to the sentient beings who could bear the true Dharma. The Buddha pointed out at that time: "All sentient beings are Buddhas." After the Dharma Flower Assembly, the Buddha was among the two Sara trees in Kushina City. , after reciting the Mahaparinirvana Sutra all day and night, he attained nirvana and passed away.

In all the Buddha's teachings on the Five Seasons, diseases and medicines are all based on the root nature and opportunity of all living beings. Therefore, there is no fixed method for teaching according to conditions. In order to prevent sentient beings from misunderstanding the Buddha's teachings and from being attached to the names and names of the scriptures, the Buddha said: "I have lived in this world for forty-nine years, and I have never said a word." He did not say a single word, indicating that the reality of all dharma is the same. That is, emptiness, the original nature, nothing can be obtained. Not a word was said. This is the ultimate talk of perfection and the ultimate teaching of Buddhahood.

In "Surangama Sutra", the Tathagata preached the true Buddha Dharma, preached the One Vehicle Dharma, pointed directly to the truth, studied the seven realms and five yins, and flowed into the Great Sea of Perfect Enlightenment. The three vehicles returned together and the five natures entered together. Therefore, this sutra is the secret heart seal of all Buddhas, unifying the great Tibetan teachings, five periods and three vehicles. However, "knowing and seeing establishes knowledge, which is the origin of ignorance. Knowing and seeing without seeing, this is nirvana." Therefore, this sutra is also divided into five periods and three vehicles. Don’t take photos when riding.

Different interpretations of the text

"Comprehensive interpretation of the text" is to explain the meaning of the scriptures word for word, that is, to explain the scriptures starting from "This is what I heard." The Shurangama Sutra consists of ten volumes in total, starting from Ananda showing his fall and Manjusri's rescue to the circulation. This book collects and compiles the recordings of Elder Yuan Yin's "Essentials of the Surangama Sutra" and the old man's teachings on the "Surangama Sutra" at different times. Some incomplete disciples have supplemented it, so it should be like a dog's tail.

[This is what I heard. At that time, the Buddha was in the Huan Jingshe in the city of Shiluo, together with a group of great bhikkhus, totaling one thousand two hundred and fifty people. 】

When the Buddha was in the world, Ananda once asked the Buddha: "After the death of the World-Honored One, what should be said at the beginning of all the sutras?" The Buddha replied: "As I heard, the Buddha was somewhere somewhere for a certain group of people.” Therefore, most of the classics in the teachings of the generation begin with “This is what I heard” as a format to express such a Dharma. I heard it from the Buddha. This sutra has specific facts, a recorder, a time, a Dharma master, and a Dharma master. There is an audience, and these six aspects are fulfilled, which is the complete achievement of a Dharma assembly. The Huayan Sutra written by Patriarch Huayan Zongchengguan says: "The Buddha's teachings can only be achieved by the combination of these six things. "The following is an introduction to the six achievements of this sutra.

Such is the case.

This is the achievement of faith. The two words "such" have slightly two meanings. First, it shows that this sutra is Ananda's personal listening to Sakyamuni's Buddhist teachings, and students should Secondly, the teachings of Buddha are nothing but the manifestation of this wonderful true nature, so the Dharma is like this. The two words "Yes", like a moon-marked finger, tell the whole story of the Tathagata's teachings, and also capture all the twelve teachings of the Tripitaka.

I heard it. This is what I heard. Achievements. Ananda is one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha. He is known as the "number one in learning" and can remember the teachings of Tathagata as many as the sands of the Ganges River. Such a Dharma is what I, Ananda, heard from the Buddha, and I am not just conjecturing it. This is based on the common truth. From the perspective of the holy truth, "the true teaching is pure in the sound." If there is no sound, the Buddha's teaching cannot be established, and the nature of the hearing is the Dharmakaya. I am the true self, and hearing without abiding is the true hearing.

This is achieved in a moment. It is said that "the law does not arise alone, but depends on the relationship. When the relationship is over, the law is destroyed, and it is not destroyed." "Since the beginning, all Buddhas have appeared in the world, depending on the time and cause. Only when the conditions for liberation of all living beings are ripe will the Buddha appear in the world. Therefore, "one moment" means the right time. The Buddha's teaching depends on the time. It is said that due to causes and conditions, it is impossible to stick to the time and phase. This is the Buddha who is aware of himself and has complete enlightenment.

According to the theory of transformation, Buddha is. The leader of this Saha world is the prince of ancient India King Suddhodana , the Eighth Form Enlightenment saves all sentient beings and is named Sakyamuni. Although the causes and conditions of this great event do not increase in the saints, they do not increase in the mortal world. It is not reduced because it is not revealed by the Buddha.

This is the place where I preached to the great monks. fifty people All. This is the achievement of all. "Great" has two meanings:

. The root of the Dharma is pure, and the second is that the monk is highly virtuous and respected. The first is to destroy evil, and the third is to fear evil. Among the 1,250 people, three brothers, Uruubinluo Kassapa, Natikassapa and Gaya Kassapa, disciples of the Buddha, led a total of 1,000 people. Shariputra and Maha Moggallana each led a crowd of 100 people. Elder Yasa led the crowd of fifty people. These one thousand two hundred and fifty people are the followers of Sakyamuni Buddha and always follow the World Honored One. Educate all sentient beings.

【They are all great Arhats without leakage, and they are the abbots of Buddhas. . From the Buddha's wheel, the wonderful will is passed down to the three realms. Measure and save all sentient beings in the future, and overcome all the burdens of the world. Their names are: Great Wisdom Shariputra, Maha Moggallana, Maha Kujira, Purunamitaranizi , Subhuti , Youbo Nishad and others are the top ones. 】

These great bhikkhus are all great Arhats without leaks. "Flowers" are the troubles. If you cling to the human self, there will be life and death in stages; if you cling to the Dharma self, there will be Dharma. It can be seen that there will be changes in life and death. If the two attachments are eliminated, the worries will be gone, and the two kinds of life and death will be eliminated. All have been purified, and are called "no leaks." These great Arhats have obtained the essentials of Buddhism and are able to live peacefully in the world and protect the Buddha's teachings. Emotions and creations are the laws of life and death for all living beings), be pure in body and mind, be dignified in speech and behavior, and be able to practice the Buddha's teachings physically. "Wheel-turning wheel" not only refers to the great Arhats who follow the Buddha to propagate the Dharma, but also refers to the fact that they follow the principles taught by the Buddha and make the Dharma circulate, spread, and be passed down from generation to generation. These great Arhats are all disciples of the Buddha who are worthy of the important task of spreading the Dharma and can teach the Dharma. "Strictly purify Bini and promote the three realms." "Bini" means precepts. The great Arhats strictly abide by the precepts, are pure and untainted, and serve as teachers for the three realms. "Save the future and overcome all the burdens of dust." The great Arhats should appear in countless incarnations according to the circumstances to save all sentient beings from the cycle of life and death. They not only benefit the present sentient beings, but also save the future people, so that all sentient beings will no longer be busy in the air. They work in the worldly realm like flowers, water and moon, but they are freed from the entanglement and drag of worldly labor. These great Arhats are Shariputra, who is the most intelligent among the disciples of Buddha, Moggallana, who is the most powerful in supernatural powers, and Mahakujira, who is impeccable in eloquence ("Mahakojira" in Chinese means "big knee", because he His knees are very big (hence the name), Puranamitaroni who is the best interpreter of sutras, Subhuti who is the best interpreter of emptiness, and Kanse Upanishad and other great Arhats, who are empty in their earthly nature and have enlightened themselves, are at the top of the Dharma Assembly.

[There are countless pratyeka and no learning, and with their original intentions, they come to the Buddha's place and belong to the monks to rest for themselves. 】
