Recognition of conjunctivitis
Conjunctiva contains many nerves and blood vessels, which are very sensitive and are susceptible to irritation and infection when they are in direct contact with the outside world.
Bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbial infections, allergies and environmental irritants can cause conjunctivitis in children.
Generally speaking, children with conjunctivitis will have symptoms such as conjunctival hyperemia, increased eye secretions, burning sensation, foreign body sensation, tearing, etc., and often complain that their eyes are stuck and cannot be opened after waking up.
Once you find that your child has these symptoms, you must seek medical treatment in time. Our parents also need to pay attention to some things in life to speed up the recovery of the child.
Conjunctivitis caused by infection usually makes the foreign body sensation in the child's eyes obvious. There is a grit in my eyes, which hurts. The discharge is mainly purulent or watery.
Infectious conjunctivitis is highly infectious. Parents must pay attention to the hygiene of their children's eyes and hands, do not let them rub their eyes, and disinfect the washbasin, towels and other items. It is best to isolate the children.
Because high temperature is conducive to the reproduction of microorganisms and the dilation of blood vessels, do not apply heat to your baby's eyes. Let your children drink plenty of water at ordinary times, and don't eat spicy foods.
Those conjunctivitis caused by allergies are common in spring and make the eyes itchy. The discharge is very sticky and can be drawn into silk. Children with this disease generally have other allergic diseases, or have a family history of allergies. Therefore, be sure not to let children come into contact with things that can easily cause them allergies.
Pinkeye
The pinkeye we often say is a kind of conjunctivitis.
Pink eye disease, known as acute catarrhal conjunctivitis in medicine, is conjunctivitis caused by bacterial or viral infections, and it usually breaks out easily in summer and autumn. Children with pinkeye have conjunctival hyperemia in one or both eyes, a large amount of mucopurulent discharge, and eye pain, which is very uncomfortable.
Pinkeye is extremely contagious. If the child’s eyes come into contact with the tears or excrement of a person with pinkeye, the disease will develop within a few hours or within a week.
If you really get pink eye disease, you must take your child to see a doctor in time. The treatment is usually antibiotics or antiviral eye drops.
If the child is sick with only one eye, when sleeping or dripping eye drops, tilt the head to the side of the sick eye to prevent the other eye from being contaminated by secretions.
When there is a lot of discharge, flush the eyes with saline.
If your child's red eyes are really serious, and the eye drops do not cooperate, you can consider asking a doctor to prescribe some oral antibiotics.
trachoma
trachoma is also a kind of conjunctivitis, which is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis infection. It is terrible and can invade the cornea and cause severe blindness. Therefore, parents must pay attention to this disease.
In addition to red eyes, eye pain, and increased discharge, trachoma can also form scars on the conjunctiva or cornea. Trachoma often lasts for several years or decades, and it is easy to leave some complications, such as trichiasis, drooping eyelids, adhesion of eyelids and eyeballs, turbid cornea, dry eye, etc., the most serious, it can also cause blindness.
However, although the consequences of trachoma are serious, the treatment is not difficult. Oral azithromycin and tetracycline ointment can cure it. It should be noted here that babies younger than 6 months cannot use azithromycin and can only use tetracycline eye ointment. Those eyes that have had complications can only rely on surgery to separate the adhesions.
Chlamydia trachomatis is also spread through direct or indirect contact, such as fingers, towels, and washing utensils. Therefore, pay attention to clean water sources, use toiletries separately, and keep the face clean. These are the main ways to prevent trachoma.
Prevention of conjunctivitis
Some elderly people think that a patient with red eye will get pink eye disease. In fact, this is very unscientific. Only through direct or indirect contact can conjunctivitis be transmitted. Knowing this, preventing it is very simple.
If a patient with conjunctivitis is found at home, isolate him immediately. All utensils must be used separately, it is best to wash and dry before using. Don’t let the children touch the things that the patient uses.
Of course, in addition to preventing infection, we must also pay attention to children's hygiene. Don't let your child's conjunctiva be irritated and infected. Always pay attention to the hygiene of children's hands, develop a good habit of washing hands frequently, cut nails frequently, and do not rub eyes with dirty hands.
The knowledge about conjunctivitis is only half a meter high. Other eye diseases, we will talk about it in the next lesson.
