Chan Shuo Feishu: Self-improvement
main text
The difference between the strong and the weak is not in the current status, because the situation is temporary and can be changed. The difference between them is whether they are in a "positive state" or in a "negative state."
Speaking of this, we must re-understand what is "positive" and what is "negative". I quote the concepts in the book " Art of Love " here to illustrate it.
"Some people work fanatically because of extreme anxiety or loneliness in their hearts, while others are for promotion and wealth. In this case, this person is a fanatical and passionate slave, and his "positiveness" is actually a "negativeness" because he is driven by external forces. He is a suffering person, not a "action". On the other hand, people often regard a person sitting in a chair who meditates, observes and experiences himself and his relationship with the world as "negative" because he "does nothing". In fact, this kind of highly concentrated meditation is the highest enthusiasm, the enthusiasm of the soul, and only those who are free and independent in their hearts can do this."
Therefore, we can conclude that positive people are driven by internal forces, and negative people are driven by external forces. In other words, the strong are positive, and the inner power drives his behavior. The weak are negative, and he is driven by external forces.
Let’s take the dialogue between Ji Kangzi and Confucius as an example to illustrate it. Ji Kangzi asked Confucius how to make the people respectful, loyal and kind to him. “Make” means driving and asking others to satisfy themselves. This belongs to negative consciousness, because it belongs to the scope of external forces. Confucius proposed that it is better to change yourself first than to change others. Leaders set an example, and followers will naturally change. In contrast, Confucius' consciousness is in a positive state of changing oneself.
Negative people wait for others to make changes, and positive people actively adjust their behavior. Everyone has the desire to correct others and hopes that the other party will make changes. In fact, this is a negative mentality. The greatest self-discipline of adults is to correct other people's desires. Instead of correcting others, it is better to actively change yourself.
The weak may be proud of the moment by relying on external forces, but they will not last long. There is a popular saying, "The money earned by luck is often lost by strength." The strong change themselves and improve themselves, so they will always be strong, which will naturally influence others.
