PolarDB is a cloud-native relational database developed by Alibaba Cloud . It adopts a storage computing separation architecture, with elasticity, high performance, distributed and other aspects. PolarDB is 100% compatible with MySQL 5.6/5.7/8.0.

POLARDB provides services to the outside world through the internal proxy layer (Proxy), that is, all applications pass through this layer of proxy first, and then access specific database nodes.

• Proxy can perform security authentication (Authorization) and protection (Protection).
• parses SQL, send write operations (such as transactions, Update, Insert, Delete, DDL, etc.) to the Writer node,
• parses SQL, and distribute read operations (such as Select) to multiple Reader nodes evenly. This is also called read and write separation .

POLARDB provides two database addresses to the outside world by default, one is the cluster address (Cluster), and the other is the primary address (Primary)

• Recommended to use cluster address because it has read and write separation function to integrate the resources of all nodes together to provide services to the outside world.
• main address always points to the master node. The SQL that accesses the master address is sent to the master node. When a master-sustainment switch occurs, the master address will automatically drift to the new master node within 30 seconds, ensuring that the application is always connected to the writable and readable master node.
