NASA's team at Kennedy Space Center in Florida conducted preliminary inspections Friday to assess the potential impact of Hurricane Ian. The Artemis' flight hardware was not damaged, the facilities were in good condition, and only a few places were found with minor water intrusions. Next, the engineers will surround the space launch system rocket within the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), and the Orion spacecraft extension access platform to prepare for additional inspections and start preparing for the next launch attempt, including retesting the flight termination system.
As the team completes the post-storm recovery operation, NASA has determined that it will focus its launch plan on Artemis I during the launch period that begins on November 12 and ends on November 27. Over the next few days, the manager will evaluate the scope of work to be performed, and in VAB ( Vertical Assembly Center ), determine the specific date of the next startup attempt (launch). Focusing on the November launch period, gives Kennedy employees time to address family and family needs after the storm and let the team determine the additional checks needed before returning to the launch pad to launch.
