"Remember the first identity of a Communist Party member, remember the special mission of being a national person, and contribute your lifelong strength to the development of the motherland's science and technology!" The person who said this sonorous oath is named Chen Lingling, a young but outstanding female scientist.

This party member with 24 years of party membership is currently a member of the Party Committee and research group leader of the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has been engaged in cutting-edge research in the field of non-coding RNA for a long time, and is committed to discovering molecular families, cracking genetic codes, and unveiling the mystery of life. She has won the honors of National March 8th Red Flag Bearer , China Youth Science and Technology Award (Special Award), China Youth Female Scientist Award and other honors.

Caring for the motherland, exploring the mystery of the genome "dark matter"

When I was a child, Chen Lingling was interested in life phenomena. She chose biology major in college and became obsessed with life sciences during her study. She has a dual degree in business administration from a well-known American university and a doctorate in biomedical and . She could have entered the company to work, but eventually "returned" to scientific research. She felt that exploration was a very meaningful challenge.

In 2011, just when her development abroad was smooth and her prospects were bright, Chen Lingling resolutely gave up the good development opportunities abroad and insisted on choosing to return to China. "When I came back more than ten years ago, the domestic scientific research environment was already very good. We have advanced instruments and equipment, and a very transparent and fair scientific research process. In recent years, many scientific researchers around me have returned from overseas studies one after another. Our ambitions are the same, and we all want to truly make due scientific research contributions to the country." With this belief, Chen Lingling returned to China as a "special talent" of the former Shanghai Academy of Biotechnology.

The interdisciplinary study has benefited Chen Lingling a lot. As a research team leader, she used the knowledge and philosophy from previous MBA courses to manage her team more scientifically and efficiently.

When I first returned to China, research on non-coding ribonucleic acid biology was in full swing, and even fewer related research was carried out in China. After returning to China, Chen Lingling reclaimed this desert, known as the "dark matter" field of biological "substance". Exploring the unknown happiness prompted her to uncover the truth of life science step by step. She summarized her work as "studying the genomic dark matter that predecessors did not know". She and her partners were the "decoders" who were trekking through the darkness to chase light. "When we get closer to the truth and see the answer to the mystery, we are always extremely excited."

leads the forefront and makes a "Chinese voice" in the field of RNA research

When Chen Lingling returned to China, she recruited teams, applied for funds, and trained graduate students from an empty laboratory... In the process of constantly moving to the scientific highland, she led the laboratory team to create a long non-coding and circular RNA research technology system through initial hard exploration and unremitting efforts, and achieved a series of original research results in revealing its generation rules, action mechanisms, and its association with human diseases, and opening up new directions in the research field.

"When we get closer to the truth and see the answer to the mystery, we are always extremely excited." Chen Lingling said.

During this period, Chen Lingling led the team to publish more than 560 SCI papers, and the research results were reviewed more than 30 times by top international academic journals such as "Cell", " Nature ", and "Science", and the maximum citation of a single article is more than 1,700 times. These research work has the significance of theoretical innovation and good clinical transformation prospects. Chen Lingling has obtained four authorized invention patents and actively promotes the transformation research of new RNA technologies and new methods in diseases such as Xiaopang Williezheng and autoimmune disease , in order to use the cutting-edge achievements of related RNA research to develop new technologies for disease diagnosis and treatment. "Little Pang Willie's Syndrome is a birth defect. If it can be detected early, intervention and treatment can be performed in advance." She said.

At present, Chen Lingling serves as the editorial board of the top international academic journals "Cell" and "Science", and participates in the development and planning of many international journals. Through dedicated research and precipitation in the "dark matter" world, Chen Lingling's scientific research capabilities and achievements have won wide recognition and high praise from the international academic community, and is actively expressing the voice of Chinese scientists to the world.

Keep in mind the original intention, "Women are not as good as men"

Driven by the mission of building a country with science and technology, Chen Lingling remembers the first identity of a Communist Party member, remembers her special mission as a "national person", cares about national affairs, and shoulders national responsibilities. She has served as the secretary of a grassroots party branch for a long time and has always focused on giving full play to the vanguard and exemplary role of party members of and the role of a branch as a fighting fortress, actively innovated the forms and content of branch activities, held a series of themed party day activities, and closely integrated party branch activities with scientific research work.

As a representative of the 11th Party Congress of Shanghai, Chen Lingling actively played a leading role, made a front-line voice for the independent cultivation of young scientific research talents in the new era, and made due contributions to the development of scientific and technological innovation. This time she was elected as a representative of the 12th Party Congress of the city and a representative of the 20th National Congress of the Party. She focuses on fulfilling her social responsibilities, and has exchanged her research experience with young women many times, encouraging young women to devote herself to science; she has opened her laboratories many times, building a bridge for primary and secondary school students to come to the laboratory for scientific practice, and has also taught popular science reports such as Jianxiang Primary School and Nanyang Model Middle School, , etc., to guide students in pursuing their scientific dreams on the road to study and stimulate their interest in life science.

Chen Lingling said that as a scientist in the new era, she will continue to carry forward the scientist spirit with patriotism as the background, always maintain a deep sense of family and country and a strong social responsibility, never forget her original aspiration and keep her mission in mind, respond to the call of the Party, obey the call of the motherland, be brave in innovation and work tirelessly.
