The total number of academicians co-opted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021 is 73.Except for the 6 special quotas in the field of national defense and national security, which must be reviewed and recommended by the ad hoc group before being allocated to relevant departments, the remaining 67 quotas are allocated as follows: 12 in the Department of Mathematics and Physics, 11 in the Department of Chemistry, and Life Sciences 13 from the Department of Medicine, 11 from the Department of Earth Sciences, 8 from the Department of Information Technology and Science, and 12 from the Department of Technology and Science
