How come 100 years have passed as soon as I open my eyes, and I've entered the science fiction era? In fact, this is not science fiction, nor is it 100 years from now, it is now. According to media reports, on December 29, 2022, the first phase of my country's deep space detection radar "Chinese Compound Eye" project was officially launched, realizing the use of a distributed radar system for deep space detection, and capturing radar three-dimensional images of the lunar crater base.

However, what does this radar have to do with asteroid defense? Can asteroids be reached by photographing the moon? Don't worry, listen to the editor slowly. First of all, this "Chinese Compound Eye" located in Liangjiang New District, Chongqing, is part of my country's asteroid defense system (local friends can be proud). It is a large-scale distributed aperture deep space detection radar that can image asteroids tens of millions of kilometers away. You can see clearly, it is imaging, and observe asteroids within a range of 150 million kilometers. At the same time, it can also carefully "scan" the area between the Earth and the moon to ensure that no asteroid that may endanger the earth is missed.

Of course, what we have built so far is only the first phase of the project, with only four 16-meter-diameter radars, and it is only a small test of ground-based radar imaging of lunar craters. The second phase of the "China Compound Eye" project has been confirmed to be constructed in Yunyang County, Chongqing. There are 25 high-resolution distributed radars with a 30-meter diameter, and construction has already started. By the third phase of the project, there will be hundreds of radars with a detection range of 150 million kilometers, which will maintain my country's 50-year lead in the field of deep space detection radar.

Don’t think that these are far-off plans. In fact, the first phase of the project in Liangjiang New District, Chongqing, did not even take a year from the start to completion. Although the second and third phases of the project are much larger in scale, they are expected to be fully put into use in 2025. The "Chinese Compound Eye" can not only defend against asteroids, but also ensure the success of our country's manned moon landing before 2030. From then on, our country will have a relatively complete deep space exploration network, and some technologies are more advanced than those of the United States.
