This afternoon (October 12), the third lesson of " Tiangong Classroom " officially started. Astronauts from Shenzhou 14th flight crew Chen Dong , Liu Yang , Cai Xuzhe conducted space teaching at China Space Station . In the plant growth research project of space station , how are the grown Arabidopsis thaliana and rice growing now? Click the video to see the introduction of astronauts↓↓↓

Shenzhou 14 flight crew astronaut Liu Yang: Space station provides us with a long-term microgravity environment. In this environment, we have discovered some phenomena that are different from the ground and have a deeper understanding of some scientific principles and scientific laws. In addition to these interesting experimental phenomena, we will also conduct scientific experiments with scientists.

Shenzhou 14 flight crew astronaut Chen Dong: Some time ago we watered and sowed Arabidopsis together. Xiaonan is also very adaptable to space life and looks very good. Today we will broadcast the scientific experiment operation of the space station and collect its samples. After teaching the students later, I will cut off all the remaining samples and put them in our frozen storage . After all the frozen storage ducts are taken out, I will put it in the minus 80 degree storage area below and take it back to the earth and hand it over to scientists for research when I return to the ground.

Shenzhou 14 flight crew astronaut Liu Yang: In addition to Xiaonan, we live in our life ecology experiment cabinet, we also cultivate another plant, rice. After more than 70 days of growth, the rice seeds have grown into rice plants. An important goal of this experiment is to achieve the cultivation of rice from seeds to seeds and the entire life cycle. There are two types of rice in the growth box. During the rice cultivation process, we discovered a strange phenomenon. A small crystal water droplet appeared among the leaves of the newly germinated rice, and the small water droplets became larger and larger until they were attached to the wall of the growth core. What is the reason? This is the phenomenon of water spitting in rice, which is easier to observe in the microgravity environment.

Shenzhou 14 flight crew astronaut Chen Dong: The rice and wheat we grow in the space station have shown vitality. We are very looking forward to harvesting the grain we grow ourselves in the space station. Maybe in the near future, on the moon and even on Mars , we can realize the dream of enjoying the cool under the grain of Academician Yuan Longping.
