On March 27, 2016, a group of black-necked cranes appeared on the banks of Yanu Lake on Wawu Mountain, Hongya County. Every year since then, the black-necked crane will be found in Hongya . They have regarded Hongya as a new habitat, marking a new milestone in Hongya's ecological and environmental protection work.
Hongya County has rich species and a wide variety of populations, and Biodiversity has always been a distinctive feature. In recent years, the county has accumulated about 220,000 mu of returning farmland to forests and more than 400,000 mu of afforestation. The coverage rate of forests has stabilized at more than 72%. The increase in land-based wild (vertebral) animals in the country has increased to 469, covering 17 national I-level key protected animals such as giant pandas and black-necked cranes; 2,278 species of wild plants 229 families 861 genera, including 7 national I-level key protected wild plants such as Davidia involucoma and yew; 63 freshwater aquatic wild protected animals, including rare fish unique to the country, giant salamander and other national II-level protected animals; the number of giant pandas has increased from the initial survey to the current 13.
It is reported that Hongya County takes "ecological function conservation area, high-end tourism core area, and green industry cluster area" as its strategic path, resolutely builds a solid ecological barrier, vigorously develops green industries, and continuously optimizes the ecological environment. Many indicators have set the best level since the monitoring record. Hongya County has been successively rated as a national ecological county and a national ecological civilization construction demonstration county. It has won the first " China Ecological Civilization Award ". It is one of the important areas for the global biodiversity protection and 13 priority areas for biodiversity protection designated by Sichuan Province.
