On May 6, 2022, researchers from the University of Oxford, , , Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and , Peking University, , jointly published a post on BMC Medicine. The study conducted an average follow-up of for 11 years for more than 510,000 Chinese people. found that in Chinese adults, more dairy intake of was associated with higher risk of liver cancer and female breast cancer .
The corresponding author of the study Du Huaidong D said that our study is the first and largest study on the intake of dairy products and the risk of cancer incurable cancer in .
In this study, the researchers followed up on 510,146 Chinese adults (30-79 years old) in the CKB cohort for an average of up to 10.8 years. These participants who had no previous history of cancer came from ten different regions (5 cities, 5 townships) across China, of which 59% were female, 41% were male, and the vast majority were Han people (about 97%).
dairy intake increased by 50 grams per day, and the corresponding total cancer, liver cancer, lymphoma, and female breast cancer risks increased by 7%, 12%, 19% and 17%, respectively.
In addition, Most Chinese people are lactose intolerant to (cannot produce enough lactase to decompose lactose in digested milk) and cannot metabolize dairy products well. Therefore, it is very important to study the association between dairy intake and cancer risk in Chinese population.
