The Zhuozhou Model Animal Phenotypic and Genetic Research Project, also known as the "Copone Project", started construction in August 2019. The project has a total construction area of 29,982 square meters. It mainly constructs four experimental systems including model animal production and breeding system, phenotypic analysis system, genetic analysis system, information processing and intelligent automated management and control system, as well as related auxiliary facilities and civil engineering .

Zhang Shuchuan, director of the Model Animal Major Facility Construction Office of China Agricultural University, said that the project will support research on pigs as model animals in human disease models, organ transplantation, drug evaluation, molecular breeding and other aspects.
