The model animal phenotyping and genetics research project is managed by the Ministry of Education and Chinese Academy of Sciences . The pig and primate facilities are respectively constructed by China Agricultural University and Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences . Among them, the pig facility is located in Zhuozhou .

The Zhuozhou Model Animal Phenotypic and Genetic Research Project, also known as the "Copone Project", started construction in August 2019. It is one of the 16 major scientific and technological infrastructures prioritized during the country's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. The project has a total construction area of 29,982 square meters. It mainly constructs four experimental systems including model animal production and breeding system, phenotypic analysis system, genetic analysis system, information processing and intelligent automated management and control system, as well as related auxiliary facilities and civil engineering .

According to reports, pigs are similar to humans in many aspects such as tissue and organ morphology, physiological regulation, behavioral patterns and genetic regulation mechanisms. They are an internationally recognized important model for the study of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases and organ transplantation.

Zhang Shuchuan, director of the Model Animal Major Facility Construction Office of China Agricultural University, said that the project will support research on pigs as model animals in human disease models, organ transplantation, drug evaluation, molecular breeding and other aspects.

"Carrying out phenotypic and genetic analysis around pigs is of great significance to answer major questions in human life sciences, ensure human health and meat food supply, promote the development of bio-high technology and translational medicine research. The project will be of great significance to the national life sciences and Independent technological innovation and improvement of international competitiveness play a major supporting role," Zhang Shuchuan said.

Currently, the Zhuozhou Model Animal Phenotypic and Genetic Research Project is stepping up its single-point and joint debugging of multi-professional equipment, and is integrating special acceptance of planning, fire protection, energy saving, earthquake resistance and archiving. It is expected to enter trial operation in October this year. .
