Public information shows that Yang Zhenyu was born in Fengcheng, Jiangxi Province in November 1927. He was admitted to Fudan University in Shanghai in September 1949. He joined the army from Fudan University in Shanghai in January 1951. He has successively served as a soldier, cadet and radio in Hangzhou, the First Aviation School of the People's Liberation Army of China, and the Northwest Air Force of the People's Liberation Army of China. From August 1954 to December 1957, he studied in the Shenyang Agricultural University Agricultural University.
After graduating in January 1958, Yang Zhenyu has been engaged in scientific research on rice hybrid japonica rice at the Rice Research Institute of Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has served as the host of the National "863" project, director of the Northern Hybrid Japonica Rice Engineering Technology Center, director of the Academic Committee of the Rice Institute, and director of the Hybrid Rice Breeding Research Office. He also serves as a member of the Hybrid Rice Expert Advisory Group of the Ministry of Agriculture, member of the 6th CPPCC of Liaoning Province, vice chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Association, and scientific consultant of the Shenyang Municipal Government. He retired in November 2000.
In the 1970s, Yang Zhenyu pioneered the "Indica-japonica bridge building" technology, introduced some of the genetic components of indica rice into the japonica rice varieties, and successfully selected the world's first "artificial recovery" japonica recovery system C57, enriched the resources of japonica recovery system, took the lead in overcoming the global problem of weak hybrid advantages among varieties, and realized large-scale planting of hybrid japonica rice in northern my country, making China the first country in the world to apply hybrid japonica rice, making my country the first country in the world to apply hybrid japonica rice, and made a breakthrough contribution to the world's rice cultivation culture.
1978 Mr. Yang Zhenyu participated in the first National Science Conference as an advanced model and was cordially received by the leaders of the Party and the state. In 1981, "Jiamin Recovery System C57 and its hybrid combination Liyou 57" won the first National Science and Technology Conference Award, the first National Invention Award, and the first prize of the Liaoning Provincial Government Science and Technology Progress Award.
In the 1980s, hybrid japonica rice was transferred to 14 countries including the United States and Japan through technical patents. Yang Zhenyu was then invited to Japan, Philippines , North Korea, the United States and other countries for inspection, technical guidance and cooperation and exchanges on hybrid japonica rice, which enabled China's advanced hybrid japonica rice technology to the world and played an important role in world rice production.
There is a saying in the rice world that "Southern Yuan and North Yang" is. North Yang refers to Mr. Yang Zhenyu, and South Yuan refers to Mr. Yuan Longping.
"Haven of Hybrid Rice ", academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and winner of the " Medal of the Republic ", died at 13:07 on May 22, 2021 in Changsha, Hunan at the age of 91.
With the death of Mr. Yang Zhenyu, "Southern Yuan and North Yang" are all gone, and a legend in the Chinese rice world is gone.
