July 23, 1942, noon.
On the wheat threshing field east of Jianhu Village, Sanhu Township (now Jianhu Village, Yandu District, Yancheng City), all the old and young villages were driven here by the Japanese army. Everyone stared at the long sword drawn by the Japanese leader in the center of the field.
The long knife shone with a cold light in the sun. Under the blade, several tied old men were kneeling. At this moment, the few people were trembling and lowering their heads, helplessly waiting for the tragic moment of the knife falling.
Early that morning, Japanese and puppet troops from nearby strongholds came out in full swing and surrounded Jianhu Village. Then the other party broke into doors and searched in a large number of people, saying that some time ago, New Fourth Army took two guns from Qinnan stronghold and hid in Jianhu Village.
For a moment, the quiet village suddenly became in chaos.
These Japanese and puppet troops searched from morning to noon, and almost turned the entire Jianhu Village upside down, but no trace of guns was found.
The Japanese leader who could not find it and became angry and embarrassed, then tied up several respected old men in the village, drew their swords in front of the whole village and threatened:
"If you don't hand over those two guns, kill all these people."

For a moment, all the villagers on the threshing field were heartbroken. Seeing that their parents and grandparents were about to die under the beast's sword, the young women could not control themselves and began to sob in a low voice.
Looking at no one answered, the Japanese leader immediately smiled and raised his knife, preparing to kill the old woman closest to him. The young women next to them turned their heads in horror and covered the children's eyes tightly.
Tragedy was about to happen, and at this moment, a trembling voice came from the crowd:
"Taijun , I know where the gun is."
Following the sound, a slit was consciously separated from the crowd. A middle-aged man in decent clothes, walked out of the crowd with a smile on his face. The Japanese leader stopped the knife when he heard the sound, narrowed his eyes and looked at the person who was talking.

This person himself knows, he is the pseudo- security chief of Jianhu Village, named Wu Guisu. On weekdays, this person would send cigarettes, alcohol and food to the stronghold from time to time, and often deal with the Japanese and puppet soldiers in the stronghold.
"You know the whereabouts of the gun?" the Japanese leader asked with a knife on his back.
Wu Guisu nodded to the Japanese leader and the translator, pointed to the riverside at the entrance of the village and said:
"A few nights ago, I saw someone hiding something under the ginkgo tree by the river."
Wu Guisu's mouth was a different look when people looked at him again. Although no one said anything, all the saliva appeared in their eyes.
Then, Wu Guisu led a group of puppet troops to the ginkgo tree by the river at the entrance of the village. He pointed to the big stone on the east side of the tree and said:
"It's under this stone."
The Japanese leader waved his hand, and several puppet troops stepped forward and moved the big stone away. A big hole suddenly appeared under the stone. A puppet army then rolled up their sleeves and reached out to take it away. As soon as they reached out, they immediately encountered an iron object.
"Finally found!" The puppet soldier shouted in surprise while pulling out, and then he took out a rusty short gun from the hole.

The Japanese leader saw that he really found the gun and immediately signaled that there should be another gun and asked him to continue searching. As a result, the puppet army touched the hole for a long time, but could no longer find the whereabouts of the second gun. The translator next to
has a good relationship with Wu Guisu on weekdays. After seeing this, he walked to Wu Guisu and asked softly:
"I said Lao Wu, where is the other gun? The news from Taijun got two guns hidden in your village."
"But that night, I saw that guy hid something here. From a distance, I couldn't see how many guns he was hiding." Wu Guisu scratched his head and replied softly.
"Then do you see who hid it?" The translation immediately noticed this important key.
Wu Guisu looked around and then whispered:
"We are all from the same village. If you say it, you will offend people, but if you don't say it, I dare not deceive the Imperial Army. I saw the person hiding the gun that night. It was Hu Degui at the east end of our village. I heard people say that he was getting close to these people." Wu Guisu gestured with his hands.

"Don't worry, with your loyalty, Taijun will definitely not treat you badly in the future." The translator nodded after hearing this, then whispered to the Japanese leader for a moment, and then led a team of puppet troops back to the village again.
Not long after, Hu Degui was tied up and carried out of the village. The other party was excited and pulled his neck and shouted:
"Catch the wrong person, you caught the wrong person!"
Hu Degui shouted unjustly, but suddenly, he was kicked by the translator behind him and chewed out of the mud, "That's right, you caught it!"
Then, a group of Japanese and puppet troops escorted Hu Degui and hurried back to the stronghold.
After the Japanese and puppet troops left, Wu Guisu also returned to the house with the villagers. When he returned home, his daughter Cuilan complained in a low voice:
"Dad, didn't you tell me that our family secretly helped the New Fourth Army? Today, why did you help the Japanese find guns, and you also sold Uncle Degui!"
Wu Guisu smiled:
"You also think your father is a Han, too." "
Looking at my daughter's face full of confusion, Wu Guisu then explained:
"The two guns that the New Fourth Army took from the Qinnan stronghold not long ago were no longer in our village. The gun I brought the Japanese today was some time ago. When Xiwa and the others were playing in the river, they were hiding there after they were caught and handed over to me. "
" Then why do you say it was hidden by Uncle Degui? Isn't this wronged person?" Cui Lanfa said anxiously.

Wu Guisu glanced at his daughter, then gritted his teeth and said coldly:
"This guy Degui should be killed!"
Then, Wu Guisu told his daughter that this Hu Degui turned out to be an underground traffic officer. Some time ago, some time ago, the party organization of Sanhu Township once secretly asked someone to notify Wu Guisu, asking him to try to get rid of this guy, but he never found a suitable opportunity.
And today, when the enemy threatened everyone to look for a gun in public, a perfect plan suddenly appeared in Wu Guisu's heart. The Japanese and puppet soldiers in the strongholds near Jianhu Village had a virtue of doing things on weekdays, and they could not know much about it.
Wu Guisu calculated that it was difficult for Hu Degui to come out.
The same as Wu Guisu thought, after Hu Degui was captured by the Japanese and puppet troops, he naturally refused to admit that he had hidden the gun, but his performance was considered very cunning by the Japanese army.
That night, Hu Degui was tortured by the Japanese army. Hu Degui, who was beaten torture all over the body, could not bear it and had to talk nonsense.
He said that the gun was hidden in the weeds beside the village, and then he said that the gun was hidden in the old pike nest on the tree at the west end of the village. As a result, the Japanese and puppet troops went out three or five times, but repeatedly failed and found nothing.
The Japanese invaders were angry and embarrassed. Finally, they decided that the guy in front of him was determined not to explain, and then tied him to a tree and stabbed him to death with a bayonet.
In those years of war, there were countless grassroots heroes. They rose up in the dark, but eventually disappeared into the long river of history. Although these stories hidden in the long river of history are little known, they are still an indispensable part of the magnificent picture of people's war back then.
