Braithwaite’s remarks were made at an annual meeting of the Naval Submarine Alliance on the 17th. At that time, Braithwaite declared in alarmist words, "China has shown offensiveness all over the world. Since the American-British War of 1812, the United States and its sovereignty have never been under such pressure as we see today." After the above-mentioned exaggeration, Braithwaite stated that he will visit India in the next few weeks to discuss the security challenges facing New Delhi and how the U.S. Navy can "uniquely" help India and obtain help from the other side. Braithwaite also claimed that the United States alone cannot compete with China, and that countries around the Pacific and countries around the world need to help each other to counter China militarily. Undoubtedly, at the moment when Sino-US relations are tense, Braithwaite also hyped up the so-called "China threat" and tried to win other countries to encircle China. This is full of maliciousness behind it.
It is not the first time that the US military has played up the “China threat”. In September this year, Richard, the commander of the US Strategic Command, claimed that China is now capable of “directly threatening the United States” and that China has built hundreds of ships since 2013. This is just one example of how fast China can achieve its "military ambitions." The US Department of Defense also declared in its so-called "Chinese Military Power Report" to Congress that "China has the largest naval force in the world" and that "China will double the number of nuclear warheads in the next 10 years."
In response to the US slander, Wu Qian, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, has clearly emphasized that China adheres to the path of peaceful development, firmly pursues a defensive national defense policy and a military strategy of active defense. The development of China's military power is entirely out of the need to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. It does not target any country or pose a threat to any country. The Chinese military’s march towards the world brings security rather than threats to the world, and opportunities rather than challenges.
