According to the latest reports from Pakistani local media, the Pakistan Navy has recently served a "Yarmook" class multifunctional frigate imported from the Netherlands, which is the second ship of the same type. It is worth mentioning that since there are almost no large-scale shipyards left in the Netherlands, the construction of the frigate was outsourced to Romania’s DAMEN company. The construction site is located in the port of Constanta, Romania. Due to the actual control of the Dutch Damen Group, Pakistan still has to do business with the Dutch if it wants to get this frigate, and it is inevitable to be pitted.
The Public Relations Office of the Pakistani Armed Forces stated that this frigate has a wide range of uses and good seaworthiness, is capable of performing various tasks in complex sea conditions, and can carry a UAV and a carrier helicopter for execution. The ship has a full load displacement of 2500 tons, but it inherits the tradition of wasted tonnage of European design warships. In terms of weapon system, the ship is only equipped with a 76mm main gun and two 30mm rapid-fire guns. There are also several 12.7mm machine guns, not even a single missile.
Such a weak firepower configuration is destined that this frigate can only perform some low-intensity maritime patrol missions at most. It is more like a maritime police ship than a warship. However, the unit price of this frigate is as high as 100 million US dollars. .
The equipment level of the Pakistani Navy itself is not very good. Compared with the purchase of similar "high-paid and low-energy" surface ships, they might as well spend more energy on purchasing our country's equipment. Not to mention the 054A/P, an all-round warship with a full load displacement of 4400 tons, even the 056/056A light frigate is much stronger than this Dutch ship, not to mention that the latter has already had a special export model for the Nigerian navy. 056 series of light frigates have a full displacement of no more than 1,400 tons, but in addition to being equipped with a 76mm main gun and a 30mm rapid-fire gun, it also has the Eagle-83 counterattack missile launcher and the Haihongqi-10 air defense system, which is far more powerful than the Pakistan Navy. The "Yamuk"-class multi-function frigate just picked up, it is not difficult to see that the so-called "multi-function" is just a gimmick, and it can't do this at all. It is time for the Pakistani Navy to change its equipment development thinking.
