On the 13th of this month, the Navy received the first OPV1900 patrol ship from the Dutch Damen Group in the port of Constanta, Romania. Related reports mentioned that the ship was named "PNS Yarmook" (hull number 271), and will soon set off to return to Pakistan.
In accordance with the agreement signed by Pakistan and the Dutch Damen Group in June 2017, the latter will design and build two full row 2,300-ton patrol ships for the Pakistan Navy on the basis of the OPV1900 patrol ship. Among them, the first ship is the already delivered "PNS Yarmook", and the second ship "PNS Tabuk" will be officially delivered to Pakistan in May this year.
, as a typical European patrol ship, "Yarmook" is quite fashionable from the outside. Of course, such a ship is naturally expensive. Judging from the agreement between the two parties, the Pakistan Navy has invested a total of about US$180 million on the two patrol ships, which means that the price of a single ship of this class is about US$90 million, which is equivalent to the 056 series.
It is worth noting that although in the display model given by Damen Group, this stealth patrol ship is equipped with an extremely rich set of shipborne radar, communication and weapon systems. Among them, the weapon system alone includes a small-caliber naval gun on the bow, two 4-piece Flying Fish anti-ship missiles on the midship, and a "goalkeeper" close defense system on the helicopter garage.
However, the "Yarmook" that Pakistan Navy has just arrived does not seem to follow the above configuration. From this top view, we can see that on this stealth patrol ship, which looks quite sci-fi, apart from the necessary navigation radar, there is almost no military radar and the shadow of the shipborne weapon system. Its configuration is almost normal. Civilian ships are no different.
If the above configuration is the final form of the "Yarmook", it will mean that after the helicopter or speedboat is removed, the equipment available on this patrol ship seems to be only water cannons with extremely limited lethality. This is obviously unacceptable for a ship with a unit price of nearly 100 million US dollars. After all, this is not a law enforcement ship, but a serious warship.
Of course, it is also said that a series of ship electric weapon systems currently lacking in this class of ships will be supplemented by upgrades and modifications after the ship returns to Pakistan. As for whether the Pakistani navy, which has invested a lot of money, has been mistreated by Damen Group, it depends on whether this stealth patrol ship will change in the future.
