On the afternoon of December 29, the Ministry of National Defense held a regular press conference. Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, deputy director of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense and spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, answered reporters’ questions.

Reporter: According to reports, the US Secretary of Defense talked about the importance of resuming the dialogue mechanism between the two militaries during the talks between the US and Chinese defense ministers. The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the U.S. Department of Defense recently participated in a U.S. think tank discussion and said that China’s suspension of the U.S.-China military dialogue mechanism due to Pelosi’s leak to Taiwan is not conducive to timely communication between the two militaries, eliminating doubts, and reducing misjudgments. What is China’s comment on this?
Tan Kefei: We have noticed relevant reports. There should be no confusion between right and wrong. China's cancellation of three exchanges between the Chinese and American militaries is a necessary countermeasure against the US deliberately creating a major crisis and severely damaging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The causes and consequences are clear, and the US is fully aware of this. In recent times, the United States has continuously issued a number of negative policy documents and bills related to China, clamored for great power competition, hyped up the so-called "China threat", grossly interfered in China's internal affairs, and further undermined the basis and atmosphere for communication and exchanges between the two militaries.
It should be pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of military-to-military relations between China and the United States, and communication between the two militaries at the working level has not been interrupted. However, the United States cannot seek to fully resume dialogue and exchanges with China while constantly harming China's interests, let alone reverse the original story and shift the responsibility of canceling some exchanges between the two militaries to China. There is no such logic in the world. If the United States really wants to engage in positive and constructive dialogue and exchanges with China, it must show sincerity and actions, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, and actively create conditions and atmosphere for the relations between the two militaries to return to the right track.
