The "Rota" naval base is a sea and air dual-purpose base jointly built by the US Navy and Spanish Navy . It is the most important military base of the Spanish Navy. The Spanish Navy is responsible for the security and guard posts outside the base, while the US Navy is responsible for the maintenance of the infrastructure, flight fields and naval dock facilities within the base. The security inside the battalion is jointly managed by the military police of the two armies. The base is the Mediterranean region and the only military base that can provide support for amphibious combat forces. It is also an important "station" for American fighter jets to enter Europe from the United States.
The base has three naval docks, an airport covering an area of 2.71 million square meters, 426 military facilities, and 806 housing units. The docks of the "Rota" naval base can be parked with aircraft carrier and large ships with less than 70,000 tons. The base is also the home port of Spain's only aircraft carrier, Prince Asturias. The Strait of Gibraltar is only more than 100 kilometers northwest, 11 kilometers away from the city of Cadiz. The base is equipped with large oil vehicles, repair plants, maritime communication centers, and airports. Although the ownership of the base belongs to the Spanish Navy, the United States has the right to use the base facilities.
This base is the most special strategic point at sea for both the Spanish Navy and the US Navy.
