When it comes to the famous Xinjiang Military Region (sub-domain level), many military fans will associate it with the Southern Xinjiang Military Region; however, compared with the popularity of the Xinjiang Military Region, the Southern Xinjiang Military Region is obviously much inferior, and it is also one level lower in level. In terms of affiliation, the Southern Xinjiang Military Region is a military-level military region under the Xinjiang Military Region, which is responsible for guarding the public security and security affairs of the southern part of Xinjiang and the border. It is under the jurisdiction of six division-level military subdivisions, including Kashgar Military Subdivision, Ali Military Subdivision, Hotan Military Subdivision, Aksu Military Subdivision, Bayingoleng Military Subdivision, and Kizilsu Military Subdivision and their affiliated border defense forces. From a regional perspective, the defense zone of the Southern Xinjiang Military Region covers the southern part of Xinjiang and the Ali region of Tibet, including the Tarim Basin, the part of the Kunlun Mountains, and the Turpan Basin. Therefore, the strategic position of the Southern Xinjiang Military Region is very important. It guards the Republic's land area of more than 900,000 square kilometers and the border line of more than 3,500 kilometers. According to the official information, the Southern Xinjiang Military Region has a long history and glorious revolutionary tradition, and has almost been born and grown up with the New China. It was founded in November 1951. Its predecessor was the 359th Brigade and the Second Army and Kashgar Military Region established in 1950. It has undergone many reforms and adjustments and has been continuously moving forward. In June 1985, the entire army was implementing a "million-million disarmament". The Southern Xinjiang Military Region was once abolished, and its military sub-districts and field troops were transferred to the Xinjiang Military Region directly under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Military Region. On April 10, 1987, the Central Military Commission decided to establish a capable command organization in the southern Xinjiang region, known as the "Southern Xinjiang Military Region of the People's Liberation Army", and was an army-level unit and under the leadership of the Xinjiang Military Region. However, on April 30, 1992, the Central Military Commission issued a general plan for streamlining and reorganizing the military system: the Xinjiang Military Region was changed to the military level, and the Southern Xinjiang Military Region was also demoted to the deputy military level. It was not until the 9th streamlining and reorganization in October 1998 that the Xinjiang Military Region was upgraded to the deputy military region level, and the Southern Xinjiang Military Region was able to restore the military level and remain in the current state.
In the 71 years since its establishment, all officers and soldiers of the Southern Xinjiang Military Region have always been closely connected with the people of all ethnic groups in the local area, not afraid of hardship or sacrifice, and have made unremitting efforts and outstanding contributions to defending and building Xinjiang. Many officers and soldiers have even paid their precious lives for this. Even today, although our army's logistics support level is already very high, the harsh natural environment and complex terrain still pose dangers and challenges to many officers and soldiers in the Southern Xinjiang Military Region. For example, the Hotan Military Sub-district, which is under the Southern Xinjiang Military Region, has its first-line defense zones on the plateau, which are mainly distributed in the Karakoram Plateau, and there are multiple "cloud outposts" with an altitude of more than 5,000 meters: the air oxygen content is less than 40% of the mainland, the annual average temperature is below -10℃, and the natural environment is very harsh.
And the Ali Military Sub-district has a considerable number of border guard battalions/companies stationed in the "forbidden zone of life" on the plateau, where natural disasters occur frequently and logistics supply is difficult. However, in order to protect every inch of the motherland, the lovely soldiers resolutely overcome many difficulties and guard the front line of the western plateau. Whenever I see handsome young men in their early 20s standing guard at plateau posts for a long time, and their faces are red and their hands are covered with calluses and frostbite in the news reports, I can't help but feel respectful!
